Bottled Up Designs
Olive Hoop Necklace
Who knew that old, broken glass could be turned into such beautiful jewelry? I get tons of compliments on my Olive Green Hoop Necklace. People are shocked when I tell them it came from a vintage wine bottle.
Therein lies the true beauty of these pieces. Each one is utterly unique and has its own personal story behind it, which is included with each jewelry piece. The only problem is you’ll find it tough to choose just one item with such an array of styles and colors.
More About Bottled Up Designs
An avid glass and bottle collector, Laura Bergman spent countless hours poking through the many old glass and bottle dumps scattered throughout the natural wooded habitats and rural farmlands in Pennsylvania. However, seeing the beauty and the history in the broken glass left behind, decided to pick up the pieces and turn them into something beautiful again.

We recycle/reuse as much as possible…bags, baggies, milk jugs, containers, old clothes or other cloth, etc. As far as being able to be a crafty upcycler…..not so much.

We are required by municipal laws in our city to recycle aluminum, glass, plastic, and cardboard/newspaper. We even have to purchase (on our own) special blue plastic recycling trash bags with our city’s name on it. Personally, we recycle and reuse many ways on our own. My husband loves coffee, so we always buy the really big containers of Folgers in the big red containers. Every now and then, I’ll keep one or two out and wash it, then our daughter uses them to put art stuff in. I am also an avid user of Freecycle. I give away LOTS of stuff on there instead of putting it in the trash for it to end up in the landfill. We buy filters for our Pur water filter pitcher instead of buying bottled water. We have Nalgene water bottles, which are made of recyclable materials, and we use these instead of buying plastic bottled drinks. This year, I did not buy bows or ribbons for our Christmas gifts since they will just get ripped off and thrown away…a few more things to keep out of the landfill. We use and reuse plastic zip storage bags UNLESS they stored raw meat or fish in them…those get thrown away. There are many other things we do…that’s just some of them.

We recyle each time we go shopping – we always bring our own bags (plus if you use your shopping bag at Target you get 5 cents off!) I am a fan Of Deal Seeking Mom & her blog! Thanks for the great ideas & coupons!

We do lots, but most recently: I now buy local milk that comes in a glass bottle. We return the bottles and they get reused.

We recycle lots of things, but I try to upcycle things that can’t be recycled in my community. This holiday season I will save all the fronts of the cards we get and I will make gift tags and ornaments out of them.

We recycle and upcycle anything we can. We use old water bottles and jugs for my son to play with. He LOVES putting things in them and taking things out.

I “recycle” for reuse clothes, shoes & purses to a rerun store that resells and gives me back a portion of what the item sells for. Most towns have such places and it gives some extra money each month to use for something special or some “new” items from the same store for me or someone in my family.

I recycle bootle caps and game pieces like scrabble to make new jewelry. I also use broken glass frames and cut the good pieces to size for pendants. I use old glass bottles to make hummingbird feeders and just try to bring new life to old things.

I try to reuse glass jars & plastic containers. Once I wash the glass jars I use them to hold various items and I use the plastic containers for “doggie bags” when someone wants to take home leftovers. That way I don’t have to worry about getting my dish back.
Amanda
I recycle books! I trade old books on swaptree for new ones!

We reuse milk jugs filled with water to take up space in our deep freeze, so it runs more efficiently

We are big recyclers in our family..but on the holiday theme, we have been reusing the same bows, crinkle ribbon, paper ribbon and wrapping paper scraps since our family began almost 20 years ago. We still have wrapping paper scraps from when I was a kid. Of course, we add a little each year and continue to reuse it. As I was unpacking decorations, I found a shopping bag (used as packing material) from my first trip to Disneyland when I was 8 (I am 42 now)!

I “recycle” things I’ve printed on my printer and no longer need into notepaper. I just tear it into quarters and keep it in a basket on my desk. I never have to buy note pads!
