Deal Seeking Mom on the Palm Pre Plus

The following post is from the Deal Seeking Mom Project Administrator, Mandi Ehman:

Two weeks ago, I told you how I was using the Palm Pre Plus to get organized.

When I first started reviewing the Palm Pre Plus, I wasn't sure I would keep it once the review was done since there is an additional monthly fee compared to a regular cell phone. However, so many of the features -- browsing the internet, accessing my Google contacts & calendars and scheduling our DVR to record a show even when we're not home -- have made everyday tasks more convenient, and while it's certainly not a necessity, it's a splurge that we think is worth the cost.

I've found myself using these features the most:

:: Camera. I've taken a ton of pictures with my phone, and I think my mom appreciates the chance to see more everyday moments with our baby girl -- cuddling with momma while I work, her first time in the exersaucer, her first taste of banana, and so on. And the best part is most of these pictures are great quality, so I don't feel guilty about not pulling out my nicer camera!

:: Internet browsing. Even though we live in the boonies and don't get a strong enough cell signal to browse the internet at home, my husband has been enabling the WiFi feature to be able to keep tabs on the NFL Scouting Combine and the start of free agency.

:: Calendars & schedules. Last week we unveiled the Deal Seeking Mom calendar to help you keep track of when deals and roundups are posted. I've added these calendars to the personal and business calendars I already have synced with my phone so that I can quickly access my entire schedule wherever I am.

:: Music. I mentioned on Twitter that I've never had an MP3 before, and it's true. Two of my girls have MP3 players and my husband has one, but I've never had one or even used theirs. However, I do love music, and I always have a music station playing on the TV or my computer. But with the Pandora app, I'm able to listen to the music I want to listen to right from my phone. And unlike an MP3player, I don't even need speakers!

Verizon Wireless wants to hear from you too! Enter for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card just for answering any of the following questions or responding to someone else's comment. Enter as many times as you'd like as long as all of your comments are relevant to the conversation:

  • Which feature of the Palm Pre Plus most appeals to you?
  • How would you use it to get or stay organized?
  • How do you use technology for streamlining and organizing your life?

The giveaway will be open until Wednesday, 3/10 at 4 p.m. EST and is open to all U.S. residents 18 years or older. I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment. Winners will be notified by email and listed on my Giveaway Winners page. Winners must respond within 48 hours of notification to claim their prize. Good luck!

Verizon provided me with a Palm Pre Plus at no charge so that I could review its features for the Deal Seeking Mom readers.

I would use the calendar and scheduler function to organize my life. And use the camera to document my life. It would be so nice to check my email when i'm away from home.

2 LisaLise March 10, 2010 at 1:24 pm

All of it sounds appealing! I like the idea of being able to search online anytime I want, and also the scheduler function to stay on top of appointments and upcoming events.

3 chantell March 10, 2010 at 1:50 pm

I would use it to put all of my appointments there so I dont forget anytihng lol

4 chantell March 10, 2010 at 1:51 pm

Checking my email when not home would be great!

5 Kristy March 10, 2010 at 1:52 pm

My whole world would be in that phone. I would love having my schedule right in front of me...what a new world this would be. I'd love it!

6 Micheline March 10, 2010 at 1:52 pm

I'm still cell phone free, so all of those techie programs sound great! I'm an organizing freak and it would be so nice to ditch the notepads and pens!

7 Jenny March 10, 2010 at 2:01 pm

Organizing on the cell phone is great. With children, it is so nice to be able to organize the calendar and everything on one device. It would be great!

8 jen March 10, 2010 at 2:04 pm

I like the camera feature.

9 Jennifer H March 10, 2010 at 2:14 pm

Wow, Micheline-this phone would change your world!! Cell phone free! I just couldn't do it.

10 Samantha Bender March 10, 2010 at 2:20 pm

Without technology organizing my life, I would be utterly lost! My calendar on both my computer and phone keep me organized and make sure I'm where I need to be when I need to be there. My phone keeps all of my most important info...notes on my kids, phone numbers of family, friends and caregivers. I love, and am kind of completely addicted to technology!

11 sarah B March 10, 2010 at 2:21 pm

Me & technology-streamlined whatta a laugh! I just figured out how to use the calander function on my cell phone which was outdated 3 years ago! I would love to move up in the world!!!

12 Alicia March 10, 2010 at 2:22 pm

The internet feature definitely appeals to me the most, and I also
like that these phones offer organizing and calendar options, I am
still relying on my spiral bound notebooks!

13 Melanie Powers March 10, 2010 at 2:26 pm

I would love the calendar and the music features.

14 melissa March 10, 2010 at 2:27 pm

I own the phone and love it! I do banking, email, calendar and so much more! Great time saver!

15 Annie March 10, 2010 at 2:29 pm

All of those features sound great! Basically a computer, camera, notepad, mp3 player all rolled into one and with you eerywhere you go. Talk about saving space in the purse or
pocket!!

16 Jennifer H March 10, 2010 at 2:34 pm

Great feedback Melissa. It sounds like a wonderful phone!

17 Judy March 10, 2010 at 2:40 pm

the calendar function would be great to keep track of all the kids activities.

18 Judy March 10, 2010 at 2:41 pm

now that I am addicted to finding deals, the internet function would really come in handy so I don't miss anything.

19 Chrissy March 10, 2010 at 2:51 pm

I like the camera feature because my phone doesn't have one.

20 Chrissy March 10, 2010 at 2:52 pm

I'd use the calendar feature to keep track of appointments. Right now, I just use a paper calendar.

21 DAWN March 10, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Checking email and the camera appeals most to me.

22 Chrissy March 10, 2010 at 2:53 pm

I don't have an MP3 player, so I'd love to have music available anytime I want.

23 Jennifer H March 10, 2010 at 2:59 pm

I don't have one either Chrissy. But I do think that's a great feature to have on a phone.

24 Joni March 10, 2010 at 3:01 pm

I would love to use it to access the internet when I'm shopping at Target. So many times I get to the store, and can't remember exactly what deal was listed on Deal Seeking Mom.

25 Lisa March 10, 2010 at 3:03 pm

I would love the internet feature! We travel a lot and that would come in very handy! It would also help me stay organized with my EBay auctions and other online activitiees!

26 Amanda March 10, 2010 at 3:05 pm

The camera...I always have my phone...but not my camera!

27 Amanda March 10, 2010 at 3:06 pm

Oh and of course the internet on the go!

28 Liz March 10, 2010 at 4:08 pm

Organization is key!

29 Maggie March 10, 2010 at 4:31 pm

Having many organizational tools in one place is an invaluable asset. I think that the Palm Pre would make this much more streamlined than a larger laptop.

30 Lynn N. March 10, 2010 at 6:07 pm

I agree with Chantel and Stephanie, being able to access e-mail away from home would be great.

31 Sandy S. March 10, 2010 at 6:13 pm

I'm using a hand-me-down phone from my little sister (and have been for two years!), so I'd probably get a kick out of all the neat features once I figured them out! The most appealing is either the calendar or the music though.

32 Mama Bear March 10, 2010 at 6:18 pm

This would be great for keeping my appointments organized.

33 Mama Bear March 10, 2010 at 6:19 pm

I would take a while to figure it out too! It would be worth it though!

34 Mama Bear March 10, 2010 at 6:22 pm

I don't have an MP3 player either.

35 Chrissy March 10, 2010 at 7:58 pm

the features sound great-now if only I had someone to sit and walk me through how to use them-that is the part that keeps me from getting one, but it sounds so nice to be organized!

36 Tawna March 10, 2010 at 11:02 pm

I would love to have a nice camera phone. It would come in so handy.

37 Tawna March 10, 2010 at 11:02 pm

I would use the calendar. I would love to be more organized!

38 traci s March 10, 2010 at 11:20 pm

im most excited about the camera!

39 traci s March 10, 2010 at 11:21 pm

i could use the calendar to keep track of all my dr appts!

40 Kathryn March 10, 2010 at 11:21 pm

I use technology to organize my coupons. I sign up for mobile coupons so that when i can save paper and $ while i shop. I make my lists of what i need and save it to my phone :)

41 traci s March 10, 2010 at 11:23 pm

the internet and emails quicker and easier to pay bills on , faster and easier to keep in touch with loved ones that are far away .

42 Shelly T. March 11, 2010 at 1:13 am

I would love the internet browsing!

43 Beth March 11, 2010 at 6:16 am

I mostly use my phone to keep me up to date w/ my clipping service thru email and my paypal/ebay apps. I also keep my husband and i pretty much in sync by bluetoothing all calendar appts and such so I dont have to enter it into 2 phones and I dont have to do the "well honey I told you last week..." speech... web browsing is also a key feature, the only time I have a few minutes to browse is when I'm away from my computer! I cant say any features of the palm appealled to me after I played with it in the verizon store. I was due for an upgrade and only even considered the palm because of dsm... But after fiddling with it for over 10 minutes, I quickly realized I didnt have a clue how to operate it, and I'm incredibly tech savy. I've never met a phone I couldnt figure out w/i a few mintues until I played with the Palm... I have since settled on the Droid and I couldnt be happier. I'm in the process now of uploading my personal and business coupon inventories into a database including the barcode (why, just cause its neat, and when i sell coupons all i have to do is scan the barcode and remove it from my inventory). This database will save me LOTS of time in the store when I find a great product on sale and pull they "hey I've got a coupon for that!" search for 15 minutes... I couldnt live without a smart phone... and after having my droid for 3 days now, I dont see how I EVER lived with out my droid. My omnia seems like last years news compared to this thing. It has a metal case and apps that entertain my kids when they are fussing! What more could you ask for?? How about lightning speed and 10000 apps, got it! and believe me when I say, they REALLY mean it when they say "theres an app for that"

44 RebeccaF March 11, 2010 at 8:18 pm

The feature that most appeals to me is that I can be on the go and still be connected to all of my favorite websites ... DealSeekingMom being top of the list of course! :D

45 RebeccaF March 11, 2010 at 8:22 pm

Wow! I just read Beth's post above and I'm salivating for the day I'll be able to get a smart phone! I have what is now a dinosaur of a phone since it's 3 years old and all it does is make phone calls! This is such an amazing time for technology!

I would love to have a good quality camera like this one which is a multi purpose device, aka my cell phone too! I used to be a big photographer, lugging around my Nikon D70 wherever I went but I've gotten tired of the big camera weight. This would be just awesome! :D

I love the idea of something so versatile. I can toss my planner, schedules and business cards and put it all into my phone (which is already an integral part of my life!)

48 Rhonda March 12, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Can somebody point me in the right direction? I tried the Giveaway winners link, but couldn't find the winner for this. :)

TIA for helping me out. :)

49 Brigitte March 12, 2010 at 11:12 pm

Rhonda she hasn't announced a winner yet, and I am surprised comments aren't closed for this since it was supposed to end Wednesday at 4. If I read it right this giveaway is for a 50 gift card, not the phone. By a lot of comments I think people thought it was for the phone, lol. When you look for the winner make sure you look for the gift card listing. hth
