Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

Child Passenger Safety Week is September 19-25 this year, and it is a great time to check over your current safety seat situation and make sure your kids are secure and plan for what you will need as your children grow. With many parents not knowing the laws or the guidelines for when to move their children between rear-facing safety seats and convertible seats to booster seats and beyond, this is definitely a topic worth paying attention too and reading up on.
Research done by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has shown that risk of injury to children is reduced by 60% when a belt-positioning booster seat is used rather than seat belts alone. For instance, in my state of Ohio, as of last year, 1/6/09, the law states that children between 4 and 8 years of age need to be secured in a booster seat. This is to protect children in the case of an accident who are not yet as large as an adult, but who have outgrown their car seat.
A few features of the Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat:
- Easy to install and use.
- Height and width are adjustable with one hand
- Fabric cover is removable and machine washable
- Converts to backless booster for children 40 lbs – 100 lbs
- “EPS” Energy Absorbing Foam provides enhanced impact protection
- Triple side protection: head, shoulders and lumbar
- Deep side wings support child’s head and neck while napping
One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat!

In Colorado the law is until 6 years old. I think I’ll keep my daughter in a booster until she is 8 because she is very small.

In Virginia, children MUST be in a car seat or booster seat until age 8. They also recommend a rear facing seat from birth to 1 year and at least 20 pounds, forward facing seat from 1 to 4 and at least 20 pounds, and booster from 4 to 8 and under 4ft 9inches – no weight guidelines.

Tennessee’s regulations:
Children ages 4 through 8 and less than 4’9″ in height must use a booster seat. Children through age 12 who are greater than 4’9″ are required to use a vehicle seatbelt, and the rear seat is recommended for these children. Tennessee requires that all children under age 16 who are not in a car seat or booster use a vehicle seat belt.

For NY I think it’s until kids are 7 that they have to be in a seat or booster.

Here inTX, a child no longer has to be in a booster once he/she turns 8 years old, or is 4’9″ or taller (whichever comes first).
Bambi
GA law states that children under age 6 must be in a car seat or booster seat appropriate for their height and weight unless they are taller than 57 inches.
