Win-It Wednesday: Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat!

September 8, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

Child Passenger Safety Week is September 19-25 this year, and it is a great time to check over your current safety seat situation and make sure your kids are secure and plan for what you will need as your children grow. With many parents not knowing the laws or the guidelines for when to move their children between rear-facing safety seats and convertible seats to booster seats and beyond, this is definitely a topic worth paying attention too and reading up on.

Research done by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has shown that risk of injury to children is reduced by 60% when a belt-positioning booster seat is used rather than seat belts alone. For instance, in my state of Ohio, as of last year, 1/6/09, the law states that children between 4 and 8 years of age need to be secured in a booster seat. This is to protect children in the case of an accident who are not yet as large as an adult, but who have outgrown their car seat.

A few features of the Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat:

  • Easy to install and use.
  • Height and width are adjustable with one hand
  • Fabric cover is removable and machine washable
  • Converts to backless booster for children 40 lbs – 100 lbs
  • “EPS” Energy Absorbing Foam provides enhanced impact protection
  • Triple side protection: head, shoulders and lumbar
  • Deep side wings support child’s head and neck while napping

One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat!

To enter, tell me how long a child needs to be in a booster seat in your state. Is it six years old, seven, eight? Do they need to be both an age and a weight before moving out of a booster seat?

+++++++++++++++

I am researching buying a high-back booster, so this is great! Apparently, Nevada has no booster seat law. You could just buckle them up in the car’s seatbelt starting at age 4. Yikes.

I know the law here is they have to be in a carseat until they are 4 years old & 40 lbs, then they can be moved to a booster seat. My son will be 4 in November, and we have started to think about getting a booster seat for him.

TX- I believe that the law states that kids should stay in a car seat till they are 100 lbs. I personally was not over 100 lbs till I turned 25!!
Baby #2 is on the way and we REALLY need another car seat!!

In NC you have to be 8 or 80 lbs to get out of the booster. My 8 year old is only 45 lbs. By law he could be out, but I think he is not well protected enough. I have a soon to be 3 year old that will need a booster seat. I would LOVE to have this one for him!!!

In Tennessee children 4-8 and less than 4’9″ must use a booster. A new booster would be great!

8 years or 80 lbs. To think I used to let my 45 lb 2-year-old ride without a booster, way back when. His much littler brother could sure use this one though!

Texas:After age 4 and 40+ pounds, children can ride in a booster seat with the adult lap and shoulder belt until the adult safety belt will fit them properly (usually when the child is 4’9″ tall).
MUST have a lap/shoulder belt to use a booster seat.

Under the new Georgia law “children under age six will be required to be in a car seat or booster seat appropriate for their height and weight and used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The new law also requires children under six to ride in the rear seat”.
