Win-It Wednesday: Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat!

September 8, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

Child Passenger Safety Week is September 19-25 this year, and it is a great time to check over your current safety seat situation and make sure your kids are secure and plan for what you will need as your children grow. With many parents not knowing the laws or the guidelines for when to move their children between rear-facing safety seats and convertible seats to booster seats and beyond, this is definitely a topic worth paying attention too and reading up on.

Research done by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has shown that risk of injury to children is reduced by 60% when a belt-positioning booster seat is used rather than seat belts alone. For instance, in my state of Ohio, as of last year, 1/6/09, the law states that children between 4 and 8 years of age need to be secured in a booster seat. This is to protect children in the case of an accident who are not yet as large as an adult, but who have outgrown their car seat.

A few features of the Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat:

  • Easy to install and use.
  • Height and width are adjustable with one hand
  • Fabric cover is removable and machine washable
  • Converts to backless booster for children 40 lbs – 100 lbs
  • “EPS” Energy Absorbing Foam provides enhanced impact protection
  • Triple side protection: head, shoulders and lumbar
  • Deep side wings support child’s head and neck while napping

One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat!

To enter, tell me how long a child needs to be in a booster seat in your state. Is it six years old, seven, eight? Do they need to be both an age and a weight before moving out of a booster seat?

+++++++++++++++

    Washington’s child restraint law requires:

Children under 13 years old are to be transported in the back seat where it is practical to do so.

Children up to their 8th birthday, unless they are 4’9″ tall (which ever comes first), must use a child restraint (car seat or booster).
The restraint system must be used correctly according to the car seat AND vehicle manufacturer’s instructions.

Vehicles equipped with lap-only seat belts are exempt from the requirement to use a booster seat for a child weighing more than 40 pounds.

Children 8 years of age or at least 4’9″ who wear a seat belt MUST use it correctly (never under the arm or behind the back) or continue to use a child restraint.

I have also included a link to the website because there is a great printable/download fact sheet that gives additional information.

Children five (5) years old or younger must be properly restrained in either a child car seat or a booster seat appropriate for their height and weight. Children ages six (6) through twelve (12) must be properly restrained in either a child car seat, booster seat, or seat belt. (Oklahoma)

AZ laws require all children under 5 to be in a restraint. $50 fine if you’re caught without. Seems pretty leniant to me!
