Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

Child Passenger Safety Week is September 19-25 this year, and it is a great time to check over your current safety seat situation and make sure your kids are secure and plan for what you will need as your children grow. With many parents not knowing the laws or the guidelines for when to move their children between rear-facing safety seats and convertible seats to booster seats and beyond, this is definitely a topic worth paying attention too and reading up on.
Research done by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has shown that risk of injury to children is reduced by 60% when a belt-positioning booster seat is used rather than seat belts alone. For instance, in my state of Ohio, as of last year, 1/6/09, the law states that children between 4 and 8 years of age need to be secured in a booster seat. This is to protect children in the case of an accident who are not yet as large as an adult, but who have outgrown their car seat.
A few features of the Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat:
- Easy to install and use.
- Height and width are adjustable with one hand
- Fabric cover is removable and machine washable
- Converts to backless booster for children 40 lbs – 100 lbs
- “EPS” Energy Absorbing Foam provides enhanced impact protection
- Triple side protection: head, shoulders and lumbar
- Deep side wings support child’s head and neck while napping

In the State of NEW YORK:
Children under age four must ride in a federally approved car seat. Effective November 24, 2009, New York State law requires that children ride in an appropriate car seat or booster seat until they reach their 8th birthday. Children under age 16 are required to wear a seat belt. The state further recommends, but does not require, that children remain in a booster seat until they reach 4’9″ or 100 lbs and can sit in the adult seat belt properly.

Georgia law states a child under six must be in a carseat or booster.

The Illinois law says they have to stay in the seat till they are 8 years old although they say its best if they are also 4’9″ and 80 lb before taking them out…heck I know some adult who are smaller than this….I am a firm believer that they should stay in as long as possible!!!!!!

•Child restraint devices are required for children through the age of seven (until 8th birthday). There is no height or weight requirement associated with this law. The Virginia law is based solely on age.

In NY:
A child under age four who weighs more than 40 pounds may be restrained in a booster seat with a lap and shoulder belt. A child of age 4, 5, 6 or 7, must use a booster seat with lap and shoulder belt or a child safety seat (The child and safety restraint system must meet the height and weight recommendations of the restraint manufacturer.)

Pennsylvania state law requires that children under age 4 ride in a federally approved car seat that is appropriate for the child’s age, height and weight. Children ages 4 to 8 must use a booster seat if they are no longer in a car seat. Children ages 8 to 18 use a seatbelt whenever they are in a vehicle, regardless of seating position.
