I usually buy my kids teachers a gift card at my grocery store which provides “fuel perks” when you purchase gift cards. Then I make them a homemade goodie with my groceries that I purchased on sale!

This is our first year for buying gifts for teachers. I got some candles and fun relaxation stuff really cheap with my coupons and sales. I plan to make up a little basket for her and then something homemade to snack on. We earn rewards points with our credit card and have cashed those in for gift cards, so to me that is free $ that we are spending without using any money in our account.

Homemade caramel corn in a cute container makes a great gift not just for teachers but for everyone and very inexpensive!

First off, I NEVER pay for a card. I figure something made by my child is a lot more heart felt than anything I would purchase. Then, there is a local learning toy store/teacher supply store that gives you a percentage off if you shop with their reusable bags. The bags cost a little over a dollar a piece. So a bag, stuffed with a few bags, a loaf of homemade bread and a card from my child…bingo! and they have a gift that will continue to save THEM money.

I say teacher’s gift should be something consumable! A body can only use some many apple mugs and such!

This year we supported a local farm by purchasing honey for teacher gifts. We bought little jars and stirrers and added them to cheaply acquired mugs and tea bags. Very inexpensive, delicious, and supports the local economy!

Clearanced school supplies. Teachers are constantly having to purchase items for their classroom. I like to buy them cheap in the fall and give as gifts.

Favorite budget friendly teacher gift is most certainly homemade snacks/baked goodies.
Lana
My daughter is not in school yet, but I taught first grade for 8 years before I had her, and my favorite gifts were the homemade candies, cookies, fudge, etc. I always got a lot of candles, figurines, ornaments, etc. and they just ended up collecting dust or being regifted because I got so much. That is why I loved the edible stuff, because they would ALWAYS get eaten! :)

I am a teacher, so I can tell you, gift cards in any small amount are always appreciated. I also love useful items for my classroom. Bringing lunch one day is very sweet. Last year, we had a student bring a box of bagels. We enjoyed those all week!

Being a Teacher —-I always like to get something for my classroom…. like a new book for our library… I plan on giving a gift of books I have found on sale over the years, also if your teacher send home those scholastic flyers, there is always at least one book that only cost 99 cents… order a few of those over the year and a nice gift you have. :)
