When you think about Borders, a large selection of books neatly lined up on shelves is probably what comes to mind. I know that was my first thought. But Borders recently expanded over 500 of their stores to include a wonderful selection of high-quality educational toys and games, including one of my favorites, Melissa & Doug toys.
Borders recently gave me a $100 gift card to check out their new lineup, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how far I was able to stretch this money. All together I managed to score six different Melissa & Doug toys, two I Spy books, an illustrated book of military airplanes, and a small collection of Mickey Mouse board books with a figurine for my “Mickeh Mou” lovin’ baby boy. I came in slightly over budget at $117, but that also included another children’s book that I picked up to donate to the Borders Charity Book Drive.
I found the selection to be quite varied, with choices that encompassed the varied interests of all five of my children, and the employees were extremely helpful. Both ladies working at the store were visited were very knowledgeable and offered suggestions on the best items to choose and were able to help us find exactly what we were searching for.
By the way, if you love the adorable lineup of Melissa & Doug toys, you’ll be excited to know that they are buy one get one 50% off through December 28th! Nothing like going and getting new books and educational toys for kids. The thirst to teach kids is like a vast ocean whose water level never decreases.

oh what i could do with a $100 borders card. i’m already a rewards member and i used to work for this company for 15 years! then i became a stay-at-home mommy to my 3 little ones. i miss getting to see all the new merchandise. melissa and doug puzzles are the best. had planned to get my daughter the doll with the magnetic clothes, and am getting my son the pizza and birthday cake puzzle. i would like to get my 1 year old some new bath toys and books. and we need to replace our much worn out copies of goodnight moon, and where the wild things are. i would definately find more books for them too. i would spend it all on them because i get all my books from the library now.

I just love Borders, and I had begun starting my first son’s library before he was even born, many of which came from Borders! In fact, when I was living in Australia recently I purchased all sorts of Aussie children’s books at their Borders stores that I can’t find here and I know he’ll enjoy, even if he’s only 2 months right now and doesn’t quite know what to make of my reading to him about wombats. As hard as it would be to buy anything but great childrens books there, I do love the Melissa and Doug toys, and I would love to start getting him their puzzles for when he’s older. I’m a sucker for any sort of educational toy, and since Borders carries so many, I’m sure I’d have a blast using the gift card! Thanks for the opportunity!

I don’t really buy books at Borders too often. But I think I’d buy some books to tutor my 5year old son. And definitely a lot of easy readers and high-interest books, like Superhero books. My younger son loves interactive flap/slide books. And maybe I’d still be able to throw in some girly princess books for my newborn daughter!

I would love to get some Melissa and Doug. They hold up so well, and are more like the good old fashioned toys we grew up with.

I love borders and they have the best clearance section!! We have filled my sons bookshelf thanks to Borders. But getting a gift certificate would let me buy some more books to send to my hubby overseas and some more small business books.

I could stretch that $100 Borders gift card to the max! I LOVE Borders!!
I noticed the other day that they have really increased their selection of Legos – I think I would split it up & buy a couple of Lego sets and finish it off with a as many books as possible from a very long wish list.
