When you think about Borders, a large selection of books neatly lined up on shelves is probably what comes to mind. I know that was my first thought. But Borders recently expanded over 500 of their stores to include a wonderful selection of high-quality educational toys and games, including one of my favorites, Melissa & Doug toys.

Borders recently gave me a $100 gift card to check out their new lineup, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how far I was able to stretch this money. All together I managed to score six different Melissa & Doug toys, two I Spy books, an illustrated book of military airplanes, and a small collection of Mickey Mouse board books with a figurine for my “Mickeh Mou” lovin’ baby boy. I came in slightly over budget at $117, but that also included another children’s book that I picked up to donate to the Borders Charity Book Drive.

I found the selection to be quite varied, with choices that encompassed the varied interests of all five of my children, and the employees were extremely helpful. Both ladies working at the store were visited were very knowledgeable and offered suggestions on the best items to choose and were able to help us find exactly what we were searching for.

    every year i get the Sandra Boynton Mom’s family desk planner it is the best!!!!
    and my daughter loves borderes she is 11 and loves to cook so this 100.00 would be great for her.

    I have a 8 month old grandaughter and teach preschool. So I would use this to enhance my class and buy my grandaughter some Christmas gifts. I just love anything Melissa and Doug. I was thinking I could buy some puzzles and blocks for my grandaughter and maybe the bread and pizza set for my classroom.

    Books, books, and more books. As a kindergarten teacher and mom of 2 little ones, it takes me no time at all in Borders to find tons of fabulous read alouds.

    Although my son is only 6 months, I would buy him some leaning toys and a bunch of books to read to him. I only have 2 ABC learning toys for him, but I do not have any books yet. I try to go to the library to get some, but they don’t carry too many books for infants.

    I would LOVE to get my 2 year old more board books, I am an avid reader and would love nothing more than to add to my library! I also need to replace books that I took from my mom hehe!
