When you think about Borders, a large selection of books neatly lined up on shelves is probably what comes to mind. I know that was my first thought. But Borders recently expanded over 500 of their stores to include a wonderful selection of high-quality educational toys and games, including one of my favorites, Melissa & Doug toys.
Borders recently gave me a $100 gift card to check out their new lineup, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how far I was able to stretch this money. All together I managed to score six different Melissa & Doug toys, two I Spy books, an illustrated book of military airplanes, and a small collection of Mickey Mouse board books with a figurine for my “Mickeh Mou” lovin’ baby boy. I came in slightly over budget at $117, but that also included another children’s book that I picked up to donate to the Borders Charity Book Drive.
I found the selection to be quite varied, with choices that encompassed the varied interests of all five of my children, and the employees were extremely helpful. Both ladies working at the store were visited were very knowledgeable and offered suggestions on the best items to choose and were able to help us find exactly what we were searching for.
By the way, if you love the adorable lineup of Melissa & Doug toys, you’ll be excited to know that they are buy one get one 50% off through December 28th! I sometimes think I get just as much enjoyment out of them as my kids do. To be honest, I never knew borders carried toys. I thought they only sold books. So I would mostly buy books for my nephew who loves to read. I read in the comments they carry legos, so i would also buy them as well.

I would buy a few of the My first… kits by Scientific Explorer. They look like a lot of fun with the added bonus of being educational.

I also LOVE Melissa & Doug Toys and puzzles. I ask for them every BDay or Christmas for the children. I love their wooden food sets right now. I would also purchase books for both children.
Thanks,
Delina

I would buy CD’s and some books. Can you also use the gift card at the cafe? It would be fun seeing what great things I could get for everyone!

I woud give the gift card to my older brother.
He and his wife have taken in a new born baby.
His wife’s cosuin is going through a very tough time; not emotionally or mental stable right now.
So they took in her baby boy.
My sister in law told me that she has been waiting for a baby for forty years and it looks like right now god is granting her wish.
I’m not trying to make this into some sob story, they both work and they have help from the state but raising a baby isn’t easy, and I’d like to give them something to help them spoil the little bundle of joy in their life!
I know they could really make that 100.00 go a long way.
Thank-you!

If I won I would donate this gift card to my son’s sitter, she has three girls and works two jobs plus her husband works and is trying to study to become a plumber, they do not know if they will have money to buy Xmas gifts this year, they are barely making bills and her car registration is due in December.

I would buy mostly books and any princess toys I could get my hands on for my daughter, and I would also buy a few books to donate for the kids at my local battered women’s shelter.
Heather Jenkins
If I bought toys, I would buy toys to give to Toys for Tots, as my daughter is too old for the type of toys they sell at Borders, but board games are are great at any age.

My First Airplane Kit, a couple of the MythBusters kits. Of course, I would also likely have to finish up our My First Little House book collection. We only have a couple to go.

We love Melissa & Doug toys at our house too! My 18 month old daughter is also really into board books, so I’d probably stock up on quite a few of those. (You can never have too many books!)
I’d also get some of the craft kit books for my older daughters.
