When you think about Borders, a large selection of books neatly lined up on shelves is probably what comes to mind. I know that was my first thought. But Borders recently expanded over 500 of their stores to include a wonderful selection of high-quality educational toys and games, including one of my favorites, Melissa & Doug toys.

Borders recently gave me a $100 gift card to check out their new lineup, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how far I was able to stretch this money. All together I managed to score six different Melissa & Doug toys, two I Spy books, an illustrated book of military airplanes, and a small collection of Mickey Mouse board books with a figurine for my “Mickeh Mou” lovin’ baby boy. I came in slightly over budget at $117, but that also included another children’s book that I picked up to donate to the Borders Charity Book Drive.

I found the selection to be quite varied, with choices that encompassed the varied interests of all five of my children, and the employees were extremely helpful. Both ladies working at the store were visited were very knowledgeable and offered suggestions on the best items to choose and were able to help us find exactly what we were searching for.

    I would definitely combine this with a few of the % off coupons that they keep putting out and get my son some of the Lego sets he wants and some more Toys For Tots to donate at the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department Station 25, NVFDRS.org, where I run!!

    What would I get with a $10o at Borders? What wouldn’t I get:) I never met a bookstore I didn’t love but I love Borders for having a great kids section, too. We are in need of more puzzles and Melissa and Doug has a great variety. Thanks for the info on the sale! I’d also pick up some books for myself that I’ve been wanting. One of my favorite authors has some reprints coming out and these will be keepers. DH can have some, too, which probably means some new music to listen to in the car.

    If I had $100 gift card to Border’s, I’d get another copy of all of our favorite children’s books that have been colored, torn, chewed up, spilled on, or otherwise put out of service. My kid’s love The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carlyle (they could read it forever but rip the pages–every page has been taped–I’d get that in a board book!) and Mary Englebreight’s Mother Goose which has just been worn out from being read ALL THE TIME!

    As an English as a Second Language Teacher and Tutor, I am always purchasing toys and puzzles at Borders. My favorite our the large learning to read ABC puzzles.

    My eleven year old daughter has alot of medical learning problems and i would use it to buy books on learning to help her and also books for her to help her learn how to read and do basic math

    We love Borders! There is one in a mall near us… If I’m lucky enough to win, my four year old and her cousins will be the luckiest ones. Maya is just starting to like playing board games, Hello Kitty Bingo looks like her style. She and her cousin would both like a My First Chemistry Kit. A perfect gift for the next birthday-kid at her school would be the Backyard Explorer Kit. Her cousin Jacob, would love the Disgusting Science Kit. Any Melissa and Doug toy is always a favorite.
