When you think about Borders, a large selection of books neatly lined up on shelves is probably what comes to mind. I know that was my first thought. But Borders recently expanded over 500 of their stores to include a wonderful selection of high-quality educational toys and games, including one of my favorites, Melissa & Doug toys.
Borders recently gave me a $100 gift card to check out their new lineup, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how far I was able to stretch this money. All together I managed to score six different Melissa & Doug toys, two I Spy books, an illustrated book of military airplanes, and a small collection of Mickey Mouse board books with a figurine for my “Mickeh Mou” lovin’ baby boy. I came in slightly over budget at $117, but that also included another children’s book that I picked up to donate to the Borders Charity Book Drive.
I found the selection to be quite varied, with choices that encompassed the varied interests of all five of my children, and the employees were extremely helpful. Both ladies working at the store were visited were very knowledgeable and offered suggestions on the best items to choose and were able to help us find exactly what we were searching for.
By the way, if you love the adorable lineup of Melissa & Doug toys, you’ll be excited to know that they are buy one get one 50% off through December 28th! What fun buying for the grandbabies.

I was just at Border’s today, admiring all their cute toys and books!
I would buy several Melissa and Doug things, as those are my favorites too. They also had a ton of cute puppets, like a baby galapagos turtle, that were really cute. I think I enjoyed them more than my daughter, though. I would also get a few Sesame Street dolls, as that is what caught my 2 year olds eye and what she carried around the store until we left. If there was any $$ left, I’d get a crockpot cookbook for myself…the one by Stephanie O’Dea, think it’s called Make it Fast, Cook it Slow, or something like that! :)

My toddler is finally sitting still long enough for me to read a book to her. I would love to get her some more books for me to read to her since we mostly have board books right now. She is also really into the look and see books so I would probably get her a few of them as well. Her little brother would love the Melissa and Doug train set as well. =-)
Val
I would buy some Curious George and Thomas the Train books, and maybe a M & D puzzle for my 3-year old.

I would start off with the touch and feel animal books and then the mellisa and doug puzzles and also the nesting blocks that have pictures on 1 side, count on 1 side, and tell a story on the other side. i like reading them to my son and he likes stacking them! There is so many things at Borders that I would LOVE to get!

SO…everytime we go there my son heads straight for this book that has mini toy horses in the spine. It teaches about the different breeds of horses. He also loves Thomas stuff that can be found there. I love puzzles for him. But I would love to build up his library with some more books.

I would buy Melissa and Doug toys for my two younger boys, and American Girls and Little House books for my two girls. Melissa and Doug products are very nice; I have a couple sets of their triangular crayons and they don’t break nearly as easily as the regular Crayola or Rose Art kinds do.
