Walmart Introduces Marketside Organic Fresh Produce

October 31, 2014 by Tara Kuczykowski 6 Comments

Though I love the Walmart 100% freshness guarantee, I’ve been mostly underwhelmed with the availability of organic produce until now — and I’ve been very vocal about this when I’ve had the opportunity to visit the Walmart headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. So when I opened the refrigerator in my hotel room on a recent trip and found it stocked with new Marketside organic juice, carrots, cauliflower and more, I actually squealed in delight!

Not only does the Marketside organic line have a new look (a purple label featuring the USDA Organic seal), they’ve also expanded the line to about 50 products currently. Look for avocados, apples, packaged salads, carrots, broccoli, onions, kale, rainbow chard, juice, grapes, potatoes, strawberries and more — all at Walmart’s everyday low prices, of course!

And in addition to rebranding the line, in 2,300 stores, you’ll find the organic produce in a segregated section. I haven’t seen this change implemented in my local store yet, but I’m hoping that it’s included in those 2,300 stores! I definitely make it through the produce section faster at stores with this type of layout.

But I did find produce bearing the new Marketside labels on my most recent trip, so I picked up some baby carrots, salad mix, and a couple of bottles of the juice. The carrots and salad mix were fresh and delicious, and if you haven’t tried the juice blends, I highly recommend you get out and purchase a few bottles.

So far I’ve tried the Mango Mix, Island Greens, and the Berry Blue. The Mango Mix is my favorite of the three, but that may change once I try the Banana Berry — I’m a sucker for a banana-berry pairing.

The new Marketside organic produce line is the perfect complement to the Wild Oats Organics line that was introduced last April. Oh, and speaking of Wild Oats, I noticed that many of the Wild Oats products are available for purchase online now!

Will you be looking for the new Marketside organic products on your next Walmart shopping trip?

I was delighted to find organic salads in my local store, and was pleased they were packaged in a sturdy box. On Dec. 1 I purchased a Half & Half Mix with a ‘use by’ date of 12/6/14. When I opened the package on Dec. 2, the greens on both sides of the package looked fresh, however those in the center were black and bruised. Not even enough for a small salad could be salvaged.

I’m glad to have more options with the organic produce. My only issue is that I love buying the spring mix salads. But it always goes bad and smells sour within a couple of days. It never makes it to the best by date. I end up throwing most of it out because of this.

I implore you to add LESS Sodium to your Traditional Rotisserie Chicken It has 660mg of salt per 3oz. That is
6,600 mg for the entire chicken. I could not eat it because it was so salty. Also
please remove the CARRAGEENAN not needed and unhealthy. I will be glad to
eat your chicken if you make these healthy changes. I know that you have been making an effort to sell healthier food and I applaud your efforts. Thanks for your kind attention. RC

The only problem I have with Marketside Organics is that it is not Non-GMO verified! This leaves me skeptical! Also I bought a can of organic garbanzo beans at Walmart for $2.00 less than the other store and later found out why. The more expensive can stated Non-gmo verified and non-BPA lined can! So be wise when choosing Walmart cheaper brands!

Also, I’m skeptical of labels that say “Grown Organically” Which to me means You can grow a gmo product organically!
A grocer told me gov regulations prevent gmo from being labeled organic! Do you trust the gov that allows gmo in the first place? Not me! Non-GMO verified is the only way to go but still not 100% sure in my mind! Hard to trust anything! Grow my own and friends at farmers markets I trust!

I bought a package of organic baby carrots. I bit into one and found a dowel wedged into the center of my carrot. Just about broke my tooth ! Am returning the package to Walmart where I bought them and will NEVER buy this product again !
