How do you get the Target stores to lower the price of the coupon to match the item? I have had so much trouble with that. They just won’t do it.

Ive learned with several stores it all depends on the cashier, even when I have a copy of the company policy with me and it states something the cashier is often well I dont go by that…..which is pretty stupid seeing as how its company policy. I had this problem at Meijers this past week and ended up talking to the store director.

I was in target last week and the cashier would not take any coupons that were just a few cents over the price. When I told them, they could make the coupon the same price as the item they said that was fraud. I told them they were making money on me when they send the coupons in but they said NO. I was asked if i wanted to talk to the manager so i did but he didn’t even know their policy. I asked for a copy of it but they just stared at me because they had no answer. I left all of my items and bought nothing.

Targets coupon policy specifically states that if your coupon is more than the value of the item purchased they will bring it down to current value. This will only go if you are using the coupon within its restrictions, eg. size as in trial… I also spoke to corporate about this. They told me to call them if they do not follow this policy, so they can call the local the store directly to review policies. He said after we hang up he was going to call the store..He did ,becuse later that day I went to two targets and they took my coupons without a problem and knew to bring the price of the item down..YAY!!

Where can I get a copy of this coporate policy to show the store managers? Or the number of the corporate office so that I can ask them to call my local store?

Oh, I forgot all about the $2/2 coupon! I’ll add that one now.

You can find a copy of the corporate coupon policy on my site; however, if you want an official version, email their customer service and they’ll send you one.

You can also combine the 2 free on-the-go packets you get with the “Buy any 2 Crystal light products get one free Crystal Light skin essentials” (They are $3.99!) I’ve done this deal several different times!

You guys are all so good! I’m relatively new to all of this with coupons and I never think to look at the trial sizes! Yay! And using the “Buy any 2 Crystal light products get one free Crystal Light skin essentials” coupon with the mini’s is extra clever! I can’t wait to try that today after work! Thanks! :)

Thanks for the tip, Rebecca! I was wondering if that one would work with the whole “greater value” thing that most BOGO coupons have. It will probably be hit or miss by store but worth a try.

I love Target, but I cannot stand their cashiers. They freak out the second I walk up and tell them I have coupons. I have had one cashier literally stand there and read every one of my coupons because she just could not understand how I can use a coupon to get something for practically nothing. I have learned to stand my ground with them, though, and not let them win! And what is even worse is that they don’t seem to understand that they are not losing any money when people use coupons. Target doesn’t pay the price of the coupons, the manufacturer does. Target needs to do some serious re-training of their associates on the whole coupon issue.

Since these are manufactured coupons, I am going to try these at dollar general. They sell the box for $1 (8per box). Has anyone already tried it there?

I always have problems with Target and last time I shopped there they told me that if the coupon is worth more than the item they won’t take them. I had my policy and showed it to 2 Managers and they didn’t know how to do it. I told them to call customer service…When I said those words they freaked out a bit and took my coupons even though they were more than the item so I got overage! This only happens at one Target! I have been trying to get that Crystal Light deal for weeks now and they’re never stocked! The cashier told me that they may not be carrying them anymore.

Does Target limit how many of the same coupon you can use at each transaction? I have 5 of the $1 off 1 product and like 5 more of the $2 off2 product! I want to use them all but don’t want to have problems! Thanks.

    Hi Deal Seeking Mom,
You might have seen this a few weeks ago, but Frugal Mommy posted a great note about Target and this problem. You might want to share it with your readers.

    so frusterated with target today!
they wouldn’t take my $1.00 off coupon for the red cross johnsons first aid kids
they wouldn’t do this deal with the crystal light
AND THEN the kashi waffles were priced at 1.83 with a temporary price cut sign half covering the price, and the temporary price cut was 2.23!! and when i pointed this out they were REALLY upset with me and told me THAT was the price and if I didn’t want to pay that then I didn’t need to buy them in the first place! I didn’t even know what to say, I just left the cart in the middle of the aisle and left.

I tried the crystal light coupon at Dollar general last night and they took it… they always look at me funny there with coupons! But I dont care … last night the cashier must of been new because it was taking her forever to ring up the 10 coupons that I had, the much older gentlemen behind me whispered in my ear, “is it really worth it” .. after he saw that my transaction was $11.50 less – and walked out spending less then $8.00 he just stood there in shock.
I was kinda happy because this coupon thing is kinda new to me. :) Made my day!

Hi, I just printed my coupons and went to Target. When I got up to the cashier they didn’t want to take the “computer printed coupons” Then they wouldn’t scan so they absolutely refused to take them. No luck with it here.

    Linda,
Just had that happen, too, but with the PopTarts deal last week. Cashier tried to tell me they can’t “key in” coupons! Also, that they can’t adjust down coupons, either. Hmph… call Target, I did. They will send you a copy of their policy and contact the store in question, making sure they and you know the correct procedure. It’s ridiculous that a company that issues their own internet coupons gives everyone such a hard time using coupons!!! (BTW, confirmed that yes, they can adjust down and yes, they can key in coupons!!) :)

    Tara,
this really is a great “freebie” to stock up on. I did it a couple of weeks ago (my post about it https://thethriftygroove.blogspot.com/2009/05/target-bargains.html) and I reposted another reminder to my readers about it today (linking back to you). I have to head to Target today so, I am glad I read this post as a reminder to print a couple more coupons off! For those who are having problems regarding cashiers not accepting the coupons because it is for more than the price of the product, I went through the same thing and then copied the store policy down, took it back to the store and handed it to the cashier after I got the manager. I told them that this is their CORPORATE policy and it is NOT up to individual stores to decided to accept or not accept. And maybe we should call their corporate office right now and hear first hand. And that is exactly what the manager did (she was feeling rather cocky about the whole thing). Corporate told her to accept the coupon and discount the product for the price it is. And then they told her that it would be fixed in their registers immediately. By the time we got back to the register, sure enough, the coupon went right through! Man, that was one ticked off Manager! Which of course was totally ridiculous.

Mary, have you tried a different browser? Sometimes I’ll find that using Firefox works better, and sometimes Internet Explorer works better.

They wouldn’t take them at my Target either and I put them back because I don’t drink Crystal Light anyway, lol. But it’s nice to know that other people around the country have the same problems with Target cashiers. It’s like they hate coupons! I wish they had self checkouts like at Jewel so I can ring my own darn coupons.
