Consumer Recalls: Cabinet Locks + More!

There have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers. Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Safety 1st Cabinet Locks

Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) Inc., of Columbus, Ind. announced a voluntary recall of Push ‘N Snap Cabinet Locks because young children can disengage the cabinet locks, allowing access to cabinet contents and posing the risk of injury, due to dangerous or unsafe items. The recall involves model numbers 48391 and 48442 (printed on the back of the product and on packaging). Locks manufactured between January 2004 and November 2010 are included in the recall (the date of manufacture is embossed on the back) and were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond and other retail stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com from January 2004 through February 2012 for between $2 and $4.

Consumers should immediately remove the recalled locks from cabinets and contact DJG for a free replacement Push ‘N Snap lock with model numbers HS158 or HS159. When removing the recalled locks, consumers are urged to immediately store dangerous items out of reach of children. Consumer Recalls: Rx Lockers
Locker Brand Inc. of Henderson, Nev. announced a voluntary recall of Medicine Bottle Storage Containers because the container can open by applying pressure to the latch when it is locked. This could result in unauthorized access to medicine bottles in the container. The recalled medicine bottle storage containers are made of orange plastic with a white top resembling four pill containers. It has a metal, three-number combination lock on the front. Production batch numbers are printed on the bottom of the container and the containers were manufactured between May 2010 to December 2010 and can be identified by the last six numbers in the production batch number (052 010, 062 010, 082 010 and 122 010). The affected Rx Lockers were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, CVS, Walgreens and the Locker Brand website from June 2010 through October 2011 for about $15.

Consumers should immediately stop using this product and contact Locker Brand for a free return mailer. When the product is returned, Rx Locker will provide a full refund. Consumer Recalls: Fan Heaters

Touch Point Fan Heaters

Meijer Inc., of Grand Rapids, Mich. announced a voluntary recall of Touch Point Fan Heaters because the exposed and unshielded electrical components can cause the heater to overheat and melt, posing fire and electrical shock hazards. This recall involves Touch Point brand oscillating forced air fan heaters with model number HW-218 and date code 0811. The model number and date code are on a silver sticker on the bottom of the heater. Universal Product Code (UPC) 7-13733-30927-1 is on the bottom of the packaging. The heaters are white, 12 inches tall, 9 inches wide and 8 inches deep. They have two round control knobs and a red warning light on the top front, and a black on/off switch on the front base that controls the fan’s oscillation. The words “Touch Point” appear on the right front of the heater’s base. The affected heaters were sold at Meijer stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio from September 2011 through November 2011 for about $20.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled heaters and return them to any Meijer store for a full refund. For additional information, contact Meijer at (800-927-8699) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Tassimo Single-Cup Coffee Makers

BSH Home Appliances Corp., of Irvine, Calif. announced a voluntary recall of Tassimo Single-Cup Brewers because the plastic disc, or T Disc, that holds the coffee or tea can burst and spray hot liquid and coffee grounds or tea leaves onto consumers using the brewer and onto bystanders, posing a burn hazard. For a complete list of model numbers, brands and date codes along with images of the recalled brewers, go here. The recalled brewers were sold in department, mass merchandise and home improvement stores nationwide and on various websites, including www.tassimodirect.com, from June 2008 through February 2012 for between $100 and $250.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Tassimo brewers and contact the firm to order a free replacement T Disc holder for the brewing mechanism. For additional information, visit the website to order a free replacement T Disc holder or contact the firm toll-free at (866) 918-8763 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET Saturday.

Tassimo Espresso T Discs

Kraft Foods Global Inc., of Northfield, Ill. announced a voluntary recall of Tassimo espresso T Discs because the T Discs can become clogged and spray hot liquid and coffee grounds onto consumers and bystanders during or after brewing, posing a burn hazard. For a complete list of recalled T Discs, go here. The recalled T Discs were sold in department, mass merchandise, home improvement and other stores nationwide and on various websites, including www.tassimodirect.com, from August 2011 through February 2012 for between $8 and $11 per package.

Consumers should stop using the recalled espresso T Discs immediately and contact the firm for a full refund. For additional information, visit the website or call the firm toll-free at (866) 918-8763 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET Saturday.

Expandable Lunch Boxes

California Innovations Inc., of Toronto, Canada announced a voluntary recall of Expandable Insulated Lunch Box with Freezer Gel Pack because the gel that contains diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol can leak out of damaged freezer gel packs, posing a poisoning hazard if ingested by children or adults. For a complete description of the recalled item, go here. The affected lunch boxes were sold at Costco Wholesale Clubs, Leon Korol and Cost U Less stores between May 2007 and September 2008 for about $10.

Consumers should immediately stop using the gel packs and dispose of them according to federal, state and/or local regulations. It is recommended that consumers contact their local waste disposal authority for instructions. Consumers may return the lunch box set to Costco for a full refund or may receive a $5 cash refund for the gel pack only by contacting California Innovations. For additional information, call California Innovations at (800) 722-2545 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, e-mail or visit the firm’s website.
