Free Magazine Subscriptions Roundup

July 14, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 8 Comments

I believe I mentioned this when I was blogging back at Life with Five, but for my newer readers, here’s the scoop on free magazine subscriptions. I haven’t actually paid for a magazine subscription in years. It’s a little known fact that magazines often offer free subscriptions to boost their readership numbers to make them more attractive to advertisers. Magazines make most of their money off of the advertisements, not the subscriptions, so the more readers they can boast, the more valuable that makes them in the eyes of potential advertisers.

I’ll be posting more free magazines opportunities as I come across them, but you usually must act fast to get them, as they don’t last long. Also, even if you already subscribe to a magazine, go ahead and sign up for the free subscriptions. They will just tack the free subscription on to the end of your current subscription!

Currently there are several new free magazine subscriptions available from ValueMags.com. There are absolutely no strings attached!

Speaking of Going Green: Ideal Bite

July 11, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 4 Comments

We’ve been focusing on trying to reduce our carbon footprint lately. This is a topic that’s especially close to my heart with such a large family. Plus, it’s just a really fun project to tackle with the kids for the summer.

Small changes that we’ve made are remembering to turn out the lights when we leave a room, replacing all of our light bulbs with CFL bulbs, not leaving the water on while we brush our teeth, and we planted a small garden out back to grow some lettuce, tomatoes, and peppers. Next on our agenda is learning all about recycling, and I’m sure the kids will love learning to sort everything before pick up day. These small changes are valuable lessons for them to learn at a young age, and we’ll build upon them in the future.

A great tool that I ran across to assist us in our lessons is Ideal Bite. Monday through Friday I receive emails with great little tips for “incremental environmentalism,” small changes that I can put in place one at a time to have a big impact overall. If you’re interested in learning how small actions can effect big results, I’d definitely recommend checking it out!

Have you made any “green” changes in your lifestyle recently? If so, please share!

Wow, I Hit the Jackpot!!!

July 8, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 12 Comments

Remember the Allure CVS Gift with Purchase promo I told you about? I wasn’t too optimistic about receiving it because 1) it was limited to the first 1,000 submissions, and 2) I accidentally bought the wrong K-Y product.

I really lucked out – just look at the awesome haul the UPS man brought me today!!! I really had expected it to be comprised of mainly samples based on the description, but there are a TON of full size products.

Full size items:

TRESemmé Thermal Recovery Replenishing Shampoo
TRESemmé Thermal Recovery Replenishing Conditioner
TRESemmé Flawless Curls Shampoo
TRESemmé Flawless Curls Conditioner
Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub
Nair Shower Power Hair Remover
V05 Curvaceous Curls Mousse
Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Extreme Lip Gloss
24.7 Skincare Targeted Wrinkle Treatment
CVS Sport Spray Sunscreen
Revlon Lip Gloss
Goody Styling Therapy Brush
Cute Chartreuse and White Makeup Bag

Sample size items:

Ban Invisible Solid Antiperspirant
Nivea Body Pure Moisture Lotion
St. Ives Advanced Body Moisturizer
K-Y Intrigue
Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser
Nexxus Root Extend

Rumor has it that people are starting to receive the Glamour CVS Gift with Purchase promo bags from May, as well. I haven’t received mine yet, but I’m hopeful it will come as I mailed my receipt on May 7th, the day the promotion showed up on their website. They’re arriving FedEx, so be on the lookout!!!

Unfortunately, both of these promos are over now, but I’ll definitely post new ones as I come across them!

Target Rescinds Coupon Offer Because of Tampering

July 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 8 Comments

Just a heads up for everyone! I actually had a friend email me one of the tampered coupons the other day; however, I received the original $5/$25 toy purchase, so I could tell right away it was not valid. I just used the valid coupon on a birthday gift last Friday, but apparently it will not be honored going forward. With all the great valid deals out there, it’s really too bad that some shady people feel the need to create these fraudulent “deals.”

Target Corp. said today that it will no longer accept coupon offers for $5
off the purchase of toys or general merchandise worth $25 or more because the
coupons have been fraudulently altered and transferred.

In February and March, 85,000 customers of the Minneapolis-based
retailer were e-mailed coupons for $5 off the purchase of toys worth $25 or
more.

The tampered coupon had an image and the word “toy” removed to make it
appear to apply to any purchase. The coupons state they are valid through Oct.
1, 2008.

Customers who got the original coupon will receive a $5 Target gift
card by mail.

My Swiffer Sweeper+Vac Infatuation

June 25, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 16 Comments

My kids are messy . . . really messy. The amount of crumbs that amass under my kitchen table through three meals a day, plus throw in a snack or two, well, it’s just astounding. And I must confess, I really hate sweeping. It’s just darn near impossible to make a nice neat pile of dust, dirt, and whatever morsels the kids have dropped with the five of them and two Italian Greyhounds running around.

Swiffer Sweeper+Vac

That’s where my Swiffer Sweeper+Vac comes to the rescue. I really, really, really, REALLY love this thing. It makes cleaning up their messes a breeze – well, as long as I remember to plug it back in to recharge it after using it that is. I don’t mind giving the kitchen floor a quick once over with this several times a day.

It’s quick, easy, and there’s no messy dustpans to deal with. You just open the little compartment that collects the dirt, dump it, and put it back. Every few days I change the cloth, and I’m good to go! BTW, I’ve got some great frugal tips for saving money on those cloths, but we’ll get to those another day.

You can pick one of these up at your local Walmart, Target, or KMart, just to name a few, and right now, you can get a $5 coupon by signing up to receive Swiffer promotions. Come on – join me in my infatuation!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...
