I like to make the boys popcicles from 100% fruit juices and pureed fruit. They taste good, are good for you, will keep you cool and are easy and inexpensive to make!

BBQing is the ultimate summer thing to do, it is a must do. We also have the pools up ad slip and slide and sprinkles(pool in 1) out. Lots of popsicles, of course.

I love sitting in the backyard with my 3 boys playing and holding my baby girl while my husband is grilling. We just got a big pool with a slide for them that they absolutely love. They constantly sneak bomb pops out of the freezer and when its all done they have dyed blue mouths and a line that runs down there arm. [email protected]

We have our own “Movie Day” We rent a movie for $1 at a Redbox (or we get an online code for a FREE rental) we buy some popcorn, candy, and our get our juicy juice boxes…head for the air conditioned bedroom, turn out the lights, close the drapes and have a fun afternoon watching movies, pigging out and hanging in bed. It’s awesome. If someone needs a potty break we can pause and reload our treat supply!

We love to play in our backyard. We have a swing set, little pool, sdewalk chalk, and lots of room to run around in the sprinklers to cool off. We invite some of the neighborhood kids to come over and they have a ball.

Dad takes the girls on long bike rides. Also we spend lots of time in the garden. The girls love to watch the fruit of their efforts.

My fave stay cool tip for free is right by our house… there is a park that has a fountain for kids to run around in. The big fountain sprays water while the kids can splash among the smaller fountains that squirt up at them! Bring a cooler with snacks and drinks and they are happy campers!

We go on a family hike every weekend. It’s fun, free and definitley satisfies our ‘green hour’. We work up an appetite for a delicious night of BBQ and smores (of course all bought on sale!!!)

We invested in a trampoline last year & it has paid for itself over & over – great summer fun for family. Have a great one everyone :)

We love to go to the library for all of the free events they offer in the summer – storytimes, juggling class, a dance class, a music class, a reading club where you can win lots of great prizes! Too cool off we usually set up the sprinkly in the backyard or fill up a wading pool and the kids just pour buckets of water on themselves. To avoid those dreaded words ‘I’m bored’ I got some worksheets from my son’s teacher that I take out whenever he utters those words. We also keep pretty busy and play outside alot!

I just joined this website a few days ago. I have really enjoyed it so far and I am sure I will for a long time to come. I have been making my 7 month old popsicles out watered down juice and letting him sit in a little blow up pool. He really enjoys it and it keeps us both from getting too hot. We live in Florida and it has been in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s these past few weeks.

What I like to do with my kids in the summer is a variety of things. We craft, have water balloon tosses, blow bubbles- even the dog gets into that one! as well as play on the water tables! My husband joins into the fun and the family gets out their water guns! You would be surprised how much fun we have! I hope you all have a great summer1 Thanks for all the great info…I don’t know how I did before your emails!~

We take the kids to a local park that has a small zoo. They love watching the rescued black bears play in the water. Along the walk are vendors…nothing beats and a great big ice cream cone on a hot day.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
