Oprah, Suri Cruise’s Ladybug Shoes, the Power of Moms + Bonus for You!

December 12, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

suri-cruise-ladybug-shoesConfession time – I’m a closet baby boutique junkie!

I brought my 2yo daughter (who, by the way, is a dead ringer for Shiloh Jolie-Pitt – I kid you not!) home from the hospital in the most adorable Oilily onesie with matching hat and booties that I got for a steal on eBay.

While I tend to purchase most of my kids’ clothes from Old Navy or Target, I still love to drool over all the trendy boutique clothing that celebs are dressing their kiddos in. So imagine my surprise to find out that my very good friend and fellow Elevenmom, Katja Presnal, was the driving force behind the famous Suri Cruise Ladybug shoes featured on Oprah last May!

That’s right! Katja was living in Colorado at the time and sent a gift basket of items from Skimbaco.com, her online children’s boutique, to the Cruises via a friend who knew them, and the rest is history. Oprah later interviewed Tom Cruise in his Colorado home, and picks up the shoes while touring the mudroom. Tom mentions that ladybugs are Suri’s favorite, and that one small mention sent thousands of moms into a frenzy to find these sweet little ladybug shoes for their own girls.

Isn’t it amazing that one mom’s initiative could turn into such a huge opportunity for both her online store and the entrepreneur mom that makes these hand-painted shoes?

In case you missed it last time around, Oprah will be re-airing the episode this afternoon! The mudroom portion runs in the first ten minutes, so definitely check it out if you can.

How can I get Suri Cruise’s Ladybug shoes?

If you want to get Suri Cruise’s shoes for your little one (they make the cutest Christmas gift!), they are called Little Ladies by Monkey-Toes and they are currently on sale for $29. I know how you all love a sale! There are many other items for sale at Skimbaco.com as well, including kids’ designer clothing up to 75% off.

So what’s the bonus?

Katja has graciously offered to give one lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader the choice between a pair of Fable & Lore David Corduroy Pants (available in sizes 8, 10, and 12) or a Wati Wrap Schoolgirl Skirt (available in sizes 8, 10, and 12). I really love the adorable coin pouch and storybook that accompany the pants!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
