Go Green with Kroger Giveaway: $25 Gift Cards

April 16, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

Win a $25 Kroger Gift CardLooking for another green freebie? Well, look no further. Kroger wants to give you a reusable shopping bag just for entering their reusable shopping bag contest. All you have to do is design your own reusable shopping tote, and they’ll credit your Kroger card for the cost of one of their bags.

Even better? When you submit your design, others will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite design. Great prizes will be awarded to the top 10 bag designs, with one lucky designer winning a $1,000 Kroger gift card and the chance for their bag design to be sold in stores. Judges will also select four finalists who will receive $250 Kroger gift cards and five runners-up who will receive $100 Kroger gift cards!

How’s that for an incentive to go green? And yes, that’s my not-so-creative bag pictured above.

Need another incentive?

Kroger has generously given me two $25 gift cards to pass on to two lucky winners to help draw attention to their green efforts. I hope you’ll all take a minute to create a bag and submit your design!

How can you win?

Share your biggest barrier to using reusable shopping totes. Is it hard to remember them? Do you have difficulties bagging your items? Would a small credit for using them be an incentive? Can you think of any ways to solve the issue? I’m just interested in your thoughts on the whole issue.

+++++++++++++++

Every reader has three methods available to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

I always forget to bring them to my car. I always relize when I’m at the store or in my car and my son is already strapped in.

I am sad to say my biggest barrier is my memory. They sit in my trunk and I forget. On the upside, some of the stores have made extra money just because I end up buying one when I forget.

I use reusable bags for most all my shopping. I use to forget them but now it has become a habit. When I go into the store I put them in my shopping cart while I’m shopping or let my kids carry them. I actually think they hold more than the plastic store bags and have more shape to them. The one deterrent I have is that one particular discount shopping store has employees who find my bags irritating because they are harder to load than their plastic bags on their turnstyle. I usually get ugly looks or sighs, so that always makes me think twice before I take them into that particular store.

Remembering them. I even keep them in the trunk of my car, but after getting two toddlers out of carseats and into the cart, I still forget to bring them in with me!!!

My biggest hurdle is just remembering to bring them. I think they’re awesome because they can handle so much more weight than the plastic bags! I think I’d be more likely to remember them if our Kroger gave us an incentive to use them.

Now that I keep them in my car at all times, I always take them in. So easy to use and less bags to carry.

I’m actually pretty good about remembering my bags. My biggest problem right now is I don’t always have enough reusable bags.

I have trouble remembering them but then too… last week when I picked up my free on the bag boy overfilled it. 2 gallons of milk, and all my meat and dairy products. I did not notice until I got.

hard to afford the .99 they cost at the store but i did manage to get one email from cvs saying i could get a bag for free. the new barrier is remembering to take it and not being able to fit all my free stuff in that ONE bag.

    April 16, 2009 at 5:13 pm

Already a subscribr — but I think a price adjustment for bringing your own bags would be a great incentive for me to remember them!

I love my bags. I started keeping them by the front seat of the car and even some folded up in my purse so I always have at least 2 with me. The hardest part for me is sometimes the handles are either too short or too long. Can’t get them over the coat! or they hang down and I’ve lost a couple because the handles were sooo long. (weird I know lol)

I LOVE reusable bags for all my shopping. I keep them in the back of my suv in one of the bags. I always have to get my notebook and bag with coupons, so I open the back door and see them. I rarely forget. If I do, I’ll buy 1 or 2 and use paper bags for the other things. I do have them put my packaged meat items in plastic bags before putting them in my bags, because that’s a mess I never want to have again. I think it would be nice if my stores would give a credit for using them… I’m always looking for ways to save, even a few cents at a time. I, too, use my bags for other personal things. They are great for a “toy bin” or “book bin” in the car, and stash easily if they’re empty. I have an ever-growing collection. I am always looking for new designs.

Just remembering to take them in. I haven’t gotten into the habit yet so I don’t remember until I get into the checkout lane. What I’m going to do is leave the bags in my passenger seat with my coupons so that I will see them.

By far my biggest hindrance to reusable bags is forgetting them! then if i have them i forget to give them to the checker cuz i’m sorting through my coupons!!

I love reusable bags and I somehow even remember to bring them to the store all the time! However, I tend to have 2 problems with them… I always bring in a bag from another store (like bringing a target bag into Kroger….) and carrying in a screaming toddler, her cup, my purse, my cart cover, and whatever toy she cares about at the moment, all while locking the car door and avoiding getting run over by other cars is really stressful!! Haha… I am sure we have all been there before!
Thanks for the giveaway! This would sure help out a ton!!
