Looking for another green freebie? Well, look no further. Kroger wants to give you a reusable shopping bag just for entering their reusable shopping bag contest. All you have to do is design your own reusable shopping tote, and they’ll credit your Kroger card for the cost of one of their bags.
Even better? When you submit your design, others will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite design. Great prizes will be awarded to the top 10 bag designs, with one lucky designer winning a $1,000 Kroger gift card and the chance for their bag design to be sold in stores. Judges will also select four finalists who will receive $250 Kroger gift cards and five runners-up who will receive $100 Kroger gift cards!
How’s that for an incentive to go green? And yes, that’s my not-so-creative bag pictured above.
Need another incentive?
Kroger has generously given me two $25 gift cards to pass on to two lucky winners to help draw attention to their green efforts. I hope you’ll all take a minute to create a bag and submit your design!
How can you win?
Share your biggest barrier to using reusable shopping totes. Is it hard to remember them? Do you have difficulties bagging your items? Would a small credit for using them be an incentive? Can you think of any ways to solve the issue? I’m just interested in your thoughts on the whole issue.

I always forget them, but a small incentive would help me be more motivated. I do re-use the plastic ones that are in good condition for other things.

My biggest barrier is taking the time to judge how many I would need for a trip. Then I have to remember to hand them to the cashier so stuff can get bagged in them. Places like Aldi and Trader Joe’s are easy since I either bag myself or they ask if I have a bag I want to use, but I’d never think of taking bags into Target.

Hmmm. I’d love to have an incentive to use them, like cents off or something. At this point my biggest barrier is that I don’t have any! I need to get some and then work on remembering to use them!

My biggest barrier is just remembering to bring the bags with me – I probably only remember about 50% of the time. I do think a small discount / incentive would help me remember them more often.

I have a hard time remembering to bring the bags into the store. Also, in my area, the baggers sometimes give me dirty looks. I should just get over it! Today I am taking them!

I love using reusable bags – especially the large ones I purchased at Target. I can fit so much in them – it makes bringing the groceries into the house a lot easier (compared to 10+ plastic sacks). I think the largest barrier (aside from forgetting them at home) is being confident when I go through the check out line! If there is a self-scan option, I always choose that, so I bag the groceries myself. Otherwise, I go through the conversation of “yes, I’ve purchased this already – I brought it for my groceries” and help them deal with the bags. Places are getting better at accepting the use of reusable bags — which is good because they sell them!

My biggest barrier is that I shop with two little ones (a 2 yr old & 9 mo old). Yep, two kids, two diaper bags (I like to be prepared). Plus, my huge coupon book and the little envelope with all the extra Qs that I haven’t sorted. It’s amazing that I bother to go shopping at all : ) Also, when I have brought my own bags in it seems to me that I get looks like I’m about to shoplift or something : ( Anyone else get that?

My biggest barrier is remembering to use them and also when I do, carrying them while I am also carrying my 8 month old. I am working on it though! :)
Amy
that was fun designing the kroger bag.
I’m starting to see more and more people using them at the store – peer pressure! the good kind ;-)

My biggest barrier is also having them with me and remembering to take them into the store. I keep them on the door knob so I see them when I leave, or in the front seat so they’re obvious in the car.

I keep forgetting to use mine, so now I keep them in my car and will put my coupon box or shopping list in them. I use one for CVS, one for WAGS, and the others for grocery stores.

My biggest barrier is cashiers and baggers seem to be awkward handling reusable bags. I feel like I’m being a pain in the neck.
