We use anything and everything around the house for art projects. My 2-year-old loves it and it’s a great way to teach about recycling!

I keep an old gallon pitcher in the kitchen by the sink. When the girls come home from school with a mostly full water bottle (or a water glass from dinner didn’t get finished, etc), I empty the water into the pitcher. When it’s time to water houseplants, the water is ready to go in a container with a pour spout.
Emily
I make sure to leave magazines I’ve read at dr’s offices or at my work to be used in art projects (I’m a teacher.) I re-use clean frosting containers to hold borders for my bulletin boards at work.
Brittney
My green tip….. hmmmm….. I use as little shampoo in the shower as possible to still get a lather but make the bottle last much longer.
Melissa
I make sure to unplug appliances when I am done using them, so they’re not sucking up energy while they’re not in use.
Ann
We reuse plastic shopping bags for trash can liners.
Recycle soda cans, run dishwasher at night only, wash clothes in cold water only, unplug appliances when not in use, don’t let water run while brushing your teeth, turns lights more frequently. We don’t use paper plates.
Denise
I man, I would love that pitcher. I live in an old home and would love to be able to drink the tap water, but worry about not filtering it first! Thanks for the great Earth Day giveaway.
Courtney
I wash all my clothes in cold water.
Thanks for a great giveaway!

I have a couple: I like to make envelopes out of cute, colorful magazine pages-they can be themed(xmas, cute baby ones from gap, ralph lauren, etc.) -I sent out all of my home made xmas cards this year out of “xmas” pages that I’ve saved over the years-(I use a template, glue stick, and address labels); I like to go through junk mail and save the “reply envelopes” and use them for my personal use crossing out any writing already printed on them; I reuse my junk mail, kids schoolwork, any paper that has a clean side on it for my COUPONs that I get on DEAL SEEKing MOM, and other printouts-Yeah!, and then my last green tip is saving “old” water from glasses from family members that was left after a meal, etc. for my house plants. I pour the water into a pitcher that I set aside and then when it’s watering day-TA DA-I have water and I didn’t get it from the faucet then. Thanks for listening…Margaret

I belong to a site called freecycle. They have them all over the U.S. but anyways its for free give aways of household items that you no longer need but is still useable. It helps keep things out of the landfill. Please check it out i have gave away many good items & gotten a few goodies to. Here is the site.. https://www.freecycle.org/

We (DH & I) recycle/reuse everything possible, even lint from dryer , cotton found in vitamin bottles, and shredder paper for starter for fireplace. LOVE the free cloth bags we have received(hate all the plastic bags that we accumulate).
Kim S.
we donate all our shopping bags to the local food bank, so people using the food bank have something to carry their food home in

freecycle as it saves you money and keeps the landfill from getting perfectly good stuff. Use reusable bags; many stores will give you $.05 to $.10 for each bag you bring.

check your local recycling station to see what recyclables they accept. You can reduce your waste

I bring my own grocery bags to the stores.

I cut up brown grocery bags and use like landscape cloth under bark mulch in my flower beds and garden. I use cardboard or old carpet in the paths under step stones and gravel.

Start using reusable shopping bags…I have found that it is not only more “green”, it is more convenient too!

My “green” tip. I often times buy “used” tablecloths at garage sales that either have stains or rips in them – I use a pinking sheers, and cut a 18 x 18 inch square to use as my everday napkins. When they start looking bad enough – I “transition” them to the rag basket. After they hit the rag basket – when I have a nasty clean up job that I would normally use a paper towel for – I use the worst rags – and then transition them to the trash. This is a great way to recycle a cotton tablecloth that would probably end up in the trash – I don’t buy paper napkins at all anymore – my family always feels special using “cloth napkins” in various colors, and they are much larger than the paper variety – and amazingly last a long time. I have a pile of about 30-40 everday napkins – and they go in with the regular laundry! My friends think I am crazy with no paper napkins – and I have been that way for years! Anita Blumenthal

I have collected a bunch of the reusebale grocery bags and I keep them in my trunk…so anytime I pop into a store I pick them out of the trunk to use! I always have them with me and can not use the excuse that I forgot them at home!
Kim
We are saving our used coffee grinds and egg shells to put in our first garden.

Every little action counts…especially the ones you don’t take because you don’t think they do. Put your head around that one. ;-)
