Dream Giveaway: $50 Home Depot Gift Card

January 26, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

dream-gift-cardRaise your hand if you love The Home Depot!

Thought so – I mean, what’s not to love? I get inspired to do some sort of household project just walking through their doors.

Here’s another bit of inspiration on a more serious note.

Through Feb. 28, The Home Depot is offering a commemorative “Dream” gift card celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. When consumers purchase the collector’s edition “Dream” gift card, The Home Depot will donate five percent of all sales to the Center for Civil and Human Rights, up to $1 million dollars. The donation will assist in the building of a permanent exhibition home for his personal writings and papers.

The collection of original documents by Dr. King includes more than 10,000 items, among them 7,000 handwritten notes spanning from 1946 to 1968. They include drafts of his “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” other theological writings and his Nobel Peace Prize addresses. The King Papers will be part of the exhibition offering of The Center for Civil and Human Rights. The Dream cards can be purchased at any store, or online at homedepot.com/dream.

Talk about amazing and inspiring, huh?

I have one of these commemorative gift cards loaded with $50 to spend at The Home Depot to give away to one Deal Seeking Mom reader!

To enter leave a comment telling me what inspires you. It can be an event, a person, a speech – you name it.

What inspires me is my father. He is 80 years old and had to have his leg amputated a couple of years ago. He didn’t let it get him down. He did therapy, immediately got his car modified and does work around his house…he just doesn’t stop. I am in awe of him!

Seeing what others can accomplish inspires me. Knowing others have accomplished many things lets me know I also can accomplish anything.

My father had an innate gift of knowing who was in trouble and showing up like “Superman.” I have seen him lift an old lady out of the gutter who laid there for hours even though there were people all around her — no one tried to call or help her. Twice he lifted trucks off from drivers pinned beneath them. His actions have inspired me to many good works.

What inspires me? Well it is more of a who…it is my Son. Why you ask? Well he is autistic and yet he is overcoming so much. We were told he was so far behind in talking and there would be so many things in life he would never do. Well he is going to be 11 on friday, he is in the regular 5th grade class at school (but yes he does have a speech therapist, occupational therapist and an aide) he brought home all A’s and a B on his report card and he has overcome so many things. He is now making friends, having conversations and bowled a 212 in his league two weeks ago! I really do believe he is a blessing and he is dedicated to living his life and not letting people tell him he cant do something! I know I am not only proud but I can learn a lot from him even!

    :-)

In these economic times, there are a lot of people who have to do with less. I see some of the people hit the hardest trying to help others in the same boat. This one family in particular is so happy with so little. That inspires me.

Quite honestly it’s my children who inspire me. Their patience, their joy, their love, their sense of humor….so many qualities about them inspire me to be a better person.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
