Dream Giveaway: $50 Home Depot Gift Card

January 26, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

dream-gift-cardRaise your hand if you love The Home Depot!

Thought so – I mean, what’s not to love? I get inspired to do some sort of household project just walking through their doors.

Here’s another bit of inspiration on a more serious note.

Through Feb. 28, The Home Depot is offering a commemorative “Dream” gift card celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. When consumers purchase the collector’s edition “Dream” gift card, The Home Depot will donate five percent of all sales to the Center for Civil and Human Rights, up to $1 million dollars. The donation will assist in the building of a permanent exhibition home for his personal writings and papers.

The collection of original documents by Dr. King includes more than 10,000 items, among them 7,000 handwritten notes spanning from 1946 to 1968. They include drafts of his “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” other theological writings and his Nobel Peace Prize addresses. The King Papers will be part of the exhibition offering of The Center for Civil and Human Rights. The Dream cards can be purchased at any store, or online at homedepot.com/dream.

Talk about amazing and inspiring, huh?

I have one of these commemorative gift cards loaded with $50 to spend at The Home Depot to give away to one Deal Seeking Mom reader!

To enter leave a comment telling me what inspires you. It can be an event, a person, a speech – you name it.

I’m inspired by my soon to be 91 year old grandfather. 7 years ago the love of his life for over 45 years passed away. We don’t live in the same state and he said he wasn’t interested in relocating but said if the time came when he needed to, he would let me know. My kids ranging from 17 – 7 call him daily. They are so proud to have a great grandpa and enjoy every conversation with him as though it were the last one they will have with him. He is overwhelmed and the calls give him something to look forward to everyday. I’m inspired by his motivation to live the rest of his life to the fullest.

Well, I’m sure I’ll be one of many who will say this, but I guess that’s a good thing. Our new President inspires me. I love that we have a President who reminds us that we should work for the better good rather than expect what we are entitled to as Americans.

What inspires me is the way my husband still manages to be the steadfast, positive leader of our family even though he’s been away for 13 months in the military. He makes a concentrated effort to include our small son in phone conversations and letters – and we are so proud of him. He truly is inspiring!

Right now I’m inspired (or more accurately, humbled) by my 2-yr-old son. His baby sister was born two weeks before his birthday, then he turned two, then he broke his leg and was in a cast for two weeks. Life could have been VERY BAD, but he’s had the sweetest disposition throughout it all! It makes me want to be a better mom and person…if he can manage all of that without crazy (terrible twos) break downs, surely I can complain less!

I’m inspired, daily, by my family. I know that lots of people probably say that but for me, it’s especially true. My middle son has Asperger’s Syndrome (an autistic disorder) and his strength and progress are incredible. My hubby works his butt off so that I am able to be home with our three sons and that means so much to me. My other two boys are amazing too, helping their brother and me daily.
    Thanks for the great giveaway!!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
