Dream Giveaway: $50 Home Depot Gift Card

January 26, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

dream-gift-cardRaise your hand if you love The Home Depot!

Thought so – I mean, what’s not to love? I get inspired to do some sort of household project just walking through their doors.

Here’s another bit of inspiration on a more serious note.

Through Feb. 28, The Home Depot is offering a commemorative “Dream” gift card celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. When consumers purchase the collector’s edition “Dream” gift card, The Home Depot will donate five percent of all sales to the Center for Civil and Human Rights, up to $1 million dollars. The donation will assist in the building of a permanent exhibition home for his personal writings and papers.

The collection of original documents by Dr. King includes more than 10,000 items, among them 7,000 handwritten notes spanning from 1946 to 1968. They include drafts of his “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” other theological writings and his Nobel Peace Prize addresses. The King Papers will be part of the exhibition offering of The Center for Civil and Human Rights. The Dream cards can be purchased at any store, or online at homedepot.com/dream.

Talk about amazing and inspiring, huh?

I have one of these commemorative gift cards loaded with $50 to spend at The Home Depot to give away to one Deal Seeking Mom reader!

To enter leave a comment telling me what inspires you. It can be an event, a person, a speech – you name it.

I am inspired by President Obama’s speech at his recent election. He moved the world with his words and is willing to lead the country in the 4 years ahead. Tears were on many faces as they listened to his speech!

My 80 year old Mother is my inspiration. She married at 16, raised her two sisters when her parents died, worked taking in ironings, working at a department store 6 days a week, a show factory, anywhere she could make a dollar to help my Dad make a living and raise their two kids. She never graduated but made sure we did, sold Avon to put my brother thru college, made sure we learned how to swim even though she was never allowed to learn. I could give you so many examples of her unselfishness and love for her family. She is my hero.

My daughter Haley inspires me, she always has a smile on her face and can make me laugh, when I am down. She even scolds her brother with a smile! For a 15(soon to be 16) she has a great outlook on life and likes to have fun. No matter how many times I ask her, she always helps me out. Even if it is the 5th weekend in a row that we have to work the kitchen at the American Legion. This child rocks and hopefully has inspired others to have a positive outlook on life and to do everything with a smile.

I’m inspired to be a better person by God’s Word but I am also inspired when I see integrity shown in everyday events (ie – Capt. Sully and crew in the Hudson River miracle) – When I see people do the right thing.

My boys inspire me; knowing that I need to be an example to them for them to turn out the way I hope and dream – it’s inspiring, but sometimes overwhelming! Also, we could really use that card to “inspire” us to re-do their room before a younger sibling joins them!

My husband inspires me. He is such a great husband. He cleans his own breakfast dishes before he goes to work, so I won’t have dishes to do when I get up. He takes me shopping (even though he hates it). He will help with the laundry, he’ll vaccuum, sometimes clean the bathroom. He also does a lot of little things, too. See, I told you he is a great husband. This Home Depot Gift Card would be a nice Valentine gift for him.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
