Comfort Giveaway: Vicks VapoRub Prize Package (ARV $450)

May 9, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

vaporubDid you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?

I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.

Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.

For child:

  • Vicks VapoRub
  • Chenille Blanket
  • Soothing lullaby music
  • Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince

For mom:

  • Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap
  • L’Occitane Shea La Vie Gift Set and Hand Cream
  • Sephora Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit
  • Essie Spa Pedicure Mini Kit

When I or my kids are feeling bad, I make homemade chicken noodle soup, and we lay on the sofas and watch movies. Popsicles help us, too!

Thanks for the giveaway! the hot lemon drinks and such are a popular remedy here. When the little one was littler, nursing was a huge help for colds and when feeling sick, seems to make everythign better!

We have lots of tea parties with decaf tea (and extra honey) and cut up orange wedges, cantaloupe, mangoes or any other fruit with vitamin c. We use special plates and cups to be festive.

Well funny you have this giveaway now. LOL My daughter and I have the crud going around. What I do is give her a couple warm baths and right before bed I use the vapor bath. If she is really tired and cranky we sit back and watch Tinkerbell till she falls asleep. Other then that lots and lots of liquids.

I do use a lot of Vick’s. My son has a vapor plug in his room. When he’s not feeling well, sliding a new cartridge in this and plugging it it tames his congestion and cough. Add in a little Walgreen’s version of mucinex DM and a Triaminic thinstrip for cough and runny nose. After that, we have two cats and two dogs that seem to feel the desire to cuddle and comfort anyone who’s sick. The best treatment for feeling rotten is to have a warm siamese curl up next to you and start purring generously.

We also have bath salts that let off vapors that ease aching bones and clear sinuses without making our eyes burn. Great stuff, too! A hot soak with the right stuff in the bath does amazing things.

When the cold/flu strikes our family, the bedtime routine includes a rubdown on the chest and throat with vicks vapor rub. I also put a few dabs on the nose too. The scent of the rub is very comforting for mom and my children. My mother did that for me when I was a child and I’m doing the same for mine. It helps suppress the cough “magically.

Am I the only one who remembers the alarming bell sounded back in Jan regarding using Vicks Vapo Rub on infants? This came after a study done at Wake Forest Univ.

Whichever one is sick grabs their favorite blankie and their pillow, a box of kleenex, their vicks vaporub (they each have their own), a glass of OJ, comforting oreos and we watch either cartoons or their favorite movie. We snuggle close and give plenty of hugs and kisses!

Wow, this is a WONDERFUL prize package!
When my children are sick with a cold it is all about rest and plenty of fluids. My daughter especially likes hot Apple cider and a hot bath and then rest on the couch, wrapped in a warm blanket watching DVDs or old shows on t.v. We also use microwaveable heat packs, and of course good old chicken noodle soup.
