BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

    We collect all of our aluminum & steel cans, crush them and store them in our crawl space- twice a year, we load them up and drop them off at the scrap metal warehouse. We feel good about recycling, plus we get a nice chunk of money too!

    I can think of three things that save those hard earned dollars.
    Ask you energy provider if they have Point Of Use Meters, this
    can cut your energy bill by using electricity during “off” hours.

    Make fancy coffee and tea beverages at home.

    Another energy one, make the switch to compact florecent lights.
    a 15 wat cfl gives off the same amount of light as a 60 watt light bulb.

    Instead of drinking a few cokes while you are at work or home drink water instead, also take your lunch to work with you that will save you atleast a couple of dollars each day.

    I take my own Cranapple juice in to work….a large 64oz. Instead of pushing dollar bills into the drink machines.

    It lasts for almost 2 weeks. I also take my own water cooler jug in…and sip on that all day.

    Carry a water bottle and stop buying bottled water. I used to buy a bottle at the gym 5 days a week for $1.25 so this year I have saved over $300! It’s better for the environment too!

    Use less dishwashing, laundry, and dish soap. The dispensers are more than enough.

    We make our own specialty coffees at home. An espresso maker may cost alot up front ($80), but you can make your coffee drink for pennies a cup instead of $4 a cup!

    Second tip – We have cut out all alcohol and soda pop. We only have water, milk, and OJ to drink at home. Not only does it save a ton of money, but you’ll lose some weight in the process!

    Tip #1: coupons, coupons, COUPONS! This is the no-brainer to beat all no-brainers but it’s so true. By using the weekly ads and matching with coupons I have cut my grocery bill to nearly a third of what it used to be. And that has saved me wa-a-a-a-y more than a dollar a day.

    The best money saving tip I can think of is this: Multi-task and plan at the library!

    The local library is a big hit in our house; we go frequently. If you make it a point to go to the library even once a week you can make a fun family trip into a money-saver and save a dollar a day in several different ways:

    1. cut out magazine subscriptions/newsstand purchases — they’re all right there for you to read;

    2. cancel the automatic movie rental membership — there a tons of free titles at the library and if there’s a newer title that they don’t have, a lot of times they’ll order it. If not, you can battle your next move out with your conscience/budget! :);

    3. can’t neglect the obvious — umm…the books. Why buy all the new releases you want to read when you can borrow them from the library instead?’

    4. taking part in the classes, story times and family fun times sponsored by your local library provides free (or low cost) family entertainment;

    5. speaking of family entertainment, you can zero out (or at least greatly reduce) the entire family entertainment budget by spending a few extra minutes while you’re there at the library each week to check the local newspaper for upcoming free or low cost family activities in your area;

    6.and last but not least, internet access at the library will let you check out the money saving tips in online forums like this one so you can put other people’s tips into practice in your budget! ;)

    All just by spending an hour or so at a library…

    I find the easiest way to save money is not only coupons, but i have really cut back on stuff for myself. and I’m frugal with the utilities at my house. And I’ve started to make big dinners and freezing the left overs for my lunches at work also instead of taking drinks with me i just use my water bottle and refill it at work.

    My tip is to eat leftovers. We rarely need to finish our plates, especially when dining out. I always try and save a few things to eat the next day, saving greatly on our grocery bill and our belt size.

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
