BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

The best way for me to save money is to stay home! As soon as I go somewhere I end up spending money–so if you can stay home and not go unnecessary places I’m sure you’d save more than a dollar a day.

I subscribe to your rss feed…at the holidays a good way to save money is to make gifts or have your children help make gifts. Especially for grandma’s and other sentimental people who are hard to buy for. They will generally treasure a hand made thing especially if the grandkids help make it.

I already subscribe via email and RSS — LOVE those deals you send! Thanks!

Use credit card points to redeem for gift cards, and give those to the people you would normally buy a gift card — like the boss, or the mailman, or your hairdresser. It’s free money rather than out-of-your-pocket!

Give food! Make cookies or brownies or a loaf of your favourite sweet bread. Give those as gifts to people you’d normally buy something small. If you aren’t a great baker, just google “gift jars” and put the ingredients in a container with a pretty ribbon. Print off the recipe, and you have a cheap, easy gift that cost you nearly nothing!

There’s my link, and here’s another tip — if you’re putting together a gift basket for someone, shop at your local thrift store for the basket and trinkets. You’ll spend at least $1 less today if you get your basket and mug there, use shredded junk mail for the stuffing/filler, and make your own hot cocoa mix (recipe easily googled).

We reduced the speed of our internet connection and saved 30.00 a month (That’s almost a dollar a day) I haven’t even noticed the difference.

If I am out of something, I ask myself…..can I make it?? The answer is usually YES!!! I don’t have to go to the market for bread when I have all the ingredients at home…so I take the time to make it and voila…MONEY Saved!!!!

We save $100.00 a year by sharing trash pickup services with my mother in law. Neither of our households generates a full trash load on our own, so we split the cost and my husband runs it over every Tuesday.

Biggest money saver I’ve learned is to PLAN. Plan ahead for your shopping trips, budget, coupons. Plan your work and work your plan. When shopping for groceries make exact lists and coupon matchups – then STICK to IT :) Also – don’t shop hungry!

ok, I didn’t read all the other comments so I’m sorry if someone already suggested this. I’m still working on getting the whole meal planning thing down pat. But one thing that I do fairly regularly is plan on having 2-3 meals w/ chicken and the same with ground beef. Then I buy more for cheaper and even sometimes cook it all at once which saves time on other nights. This is easy for me because it gives me flexibility on what the meal actually ends up being – but still helps save some time and money.
** I also subscribed to your RSS feed! Thanks!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
