BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

If you have a baby (or younger child) that needs the temperature in the house warmer than you like to keep it at night, buy a small, programmable electric heater to put in his/her room. This will GREATLY reduce your gas bill, because you can turn the heater in the house down for the night.

Since meat is expensive buy it in bulk 5-10 lb/ when it is on sale(usually 1 X per month at some local grocery store. At home, divide up, for instance take a few lbs/ and make in to burgers(easy & quick to prepare if already in burger form) , place 1 wax paper in between each and wrap up and freeze . Take another few lbs of it and ground up then place in small separate ziplocks bags, this will be ready for spaghetti sauce, tacos, burritos and any other meal that requires ground beef!
    Quick and Easy
We started doing this last year and saved over $800.00 because we did not have to buy prepackaged burgers and full price meat!
(Both expensive when NOT on sale)
So you can have meat meals without the guilt of the expense and the smiles from the savings;)
    Happy Holidays!
    Trish
Love your blog and I subscribe!
BTW our savings this year was $820.00 YEAH!

I cannot emphasize enough how couponing and CVSing has saved my family MORE than $1 per day. Be sure to make a list of your deals, clip the coupons you will be using to your list, and make the rounds of all the stores you need to go to in one trip! I have stocked up on shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, toilet tissue, paper towels, makeup, razors and shaving cream so that I almost NEVER buy any of these things anymore!

We use the envelope system and budget for Christmas all year long. On Thanksgiving I divee out all of the money into envelopes for each person I have to buy for. Once little Mikey’s envelope is empty, little Mikey gets no more gifts. It’s a great way for self control. No debit card allowed.

    1) I accumulate all my spare change and once a month take it to the bank where they have a coin machine and then deposit it back into the bank accounts. The first time I did this I found that I had well over $100 in 2 cars and the bottoms of a few purses. This became spending money for a vacation.

I sub to your feed as of this evening

    2) I joined a local food co-op that supports local growers. Not only are we eating healthy my grocery bills are much lower, even with the membership to the co-op and co-op fees. I usually have enough veggies and fruits to freeze extra meals!

    3) Use your GPS to optimize your route when you are running errands so that you arent driving in circles to get from the store, to the next store to the school and then wherever else you need to go. With high gas prices, this can save you quite a bit!

while in or passing by Mcdonalds I make sure to get lots of packets of ketchup for my son who can not eat any chicken or meat without gobs of ketchup! This saves lots of money and kids like the packets

My tip is to make coffee at home and bring it with you in the car in a travel mug. That way you can avoid spending $2 – $4 on coffee on the road. I always like to have hot coffee in the car for long drives and this saves a little bit of money. When you consider that you can buy an entire bag of coffee for $4-$5 a cup of coffee for $2 is a big rip off!

Thanks for the chance to win!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
