BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

Stop or decrease the amount of junk food that you eat. I visit the vending machine a couple of times throughout the day. Soda, snickers bar. If you can’t stop, then buy a case of soda or a box of snickers rather than go to the vending machine.

    I subscribe by email.

Instead of buying brand name medicines and food. I buy chain store medicines and food. It saves me money and I still get the same product.

    Thanks.

One great tip to save $1 a day is to buy generic food products. IE when you can buy walmart, western family, or the stores brands of food, like for bread, canned goods etc. Somethings you can’t taste the difference. I do liket o buy some food brand things, like Campbells tomotoe juice my husband is allergic to all other brands..
    I hope I win!!

We begin early and make many of the gifts we give. We paint, sew, build and create unusual and interesting things. This gives the person a gift from our heart and is very low cost.

My first tip is to purchase storage containers for dry items like cereal. The large ones at Walmart are only $5-$6, and I can get four to five boxes of cereal in each one. They keep it fresh for so much longer and take up a lot less space. I know we save $30 a month at least by storing it this way and not throwing out half-empty boxes!

I am already a subscriber, so here is my second tip. We love to sleep under electric blankets in the winter and fall, and both of my kids love furry, footed pjs, so I lower the heater just a couple of degrees when we get in bed and my husband turns it back up when he goes to work so it will be warm when the rest of us get up. I have seen such a difference in our heating bill!

here is another tip: bake your own pastries, etc. and freeze them. this is great especially if you are single and cook something but don’t want to/can’t find people to give baked goods away to. i really love making scones and i cook a batch and freeze them, and then bake them individually as i want them. this saves a bunch of money because you aren’t buying scones, and also because you won’t waste any!

My 1st tip – have “pioneer night” a few times a month, using no electricity (within reason) – have dinner by candlelight, play board games, no TV, no computer, etc. Save electricity. =)

My 2nd tip – do a complete kitchen inventory and use what you have before buying anymore items (aside from perishables, like milk, eggs, etc.). You’d be *amazed* how much you have hidden in your cabinets and how many meals you can make without having to go grocery shopping at all!

Make your own baby food. You can buy fresh produce, or frozen fruits and veggies. Not only is it MUCH cheaper, but it is healthier for your baby too!

If you have a baby (or younger child) that needs the temperature in the house warmer than you like to keep it at night, buy a small, programmable electric heater to put in his/her room. This will GREATLY reduce your gas bill, because you can turn the heater in the house down for the night.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
