BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

I just subscribed via email…ddavidpatrick at gmail dot com.

My 2nd money saving tip is really try and keep most of your lights off in the house, conserve your water use and run the dishwasher just once a week, and last…try to keep your heat down to 60 degrees at night. All of that should save you a good $1 or so a day. :)

Okay I tweeted the giveaway here…https://twitter.com/BrnEyedGal/status/1037052247

    Tip #3
I feel grocery shopping is getting more expensive ALL the time. So, I really try and stick to a budget, clip coupons, find the best sales, and last…I now try to fix crockpot meals or casseroles that I can freeze of use for more than one dinner.
You will save lots more than just $1.

We use a Hot Water Timer!! We program it to heat the water on two times a day….just enough for showers and dishes. Otherwise it heats all day long.

    Tip #3
I make a lot of casseroles and instead of using whole chicken breast, I cut them up in bite size pieces, that way I don’t have to use as many. I also (depending on the recipe) use a lot of rice in my dishes as well as beans….it makes the dish go a lot longer.

When my clothes don’t fit so well anymore because I have lost weight, gained weight, or am pregnant, I don’t buy new ones, I trade! I have one sister and a lot of friends, and whenever we have clothes that don’t fit anymore we send them to someone that could use them. This is especially useful for maternity clothes that you wear for such a short time! We put them in plastic totes according to size and label the totes. If you consider that one new dressy shirt could cost $20-$30, sharing just one shirt will save you a dollar a day for a month. Think of all you are saving with a tote-load!

We put in a wood-burning stove. The wood is free (we have woods) and to heat the house, we save alot more than $1/day!

For those of you who commute, drive no faster than 55mph. I save about $2 a day by driving 55 rather than 75, and it only takes me about 3 minutes more each way.

I subscribe too, we also put Christmas lights on timers. Limiting it to only 3-4 hours/night. I also cut way back on our outdoor lights. Every little bit helps!

My husband brings his own lunch to work and instead of buying coke at the gas station, he brings it from home. This has saved us loads of $$ during the week, it has made a huge difference in our budget.

I posted about your giveaway here!

I clip a lot of coupons to bring down my grocery bill. Sometimes I save over $100 with my bonuscard savings and coupons combined. Always use coupons at a store that doubles or triples coupons!

I’ve started making my own yogurt. It may not save EVERYONE $1 a day, but we go through a ton of yogurt and I calculated that it’ll save us upwards of $2 a day.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
