BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

I am excited about this tip…I didn’t do it with my first child, but I’m so stoked to try it with my second. I am planning on making homemade baby food. This not only cuts down on the need to buy in jars/plastic cups but will save money and be more nutritious. =) Thanks for the Giveaway!

Another money saving idea I use is to always run errands before work, after work or during lunch. I do not live in town and the gas I save not coming back into town each week for errands on the weekend is always substantial, sometimes over $10 a week.

I posted on my blog about this wonderful giveaway.

We hang our laundry up in the kitchen all winter long. Not using the dryer saves us alot.

    New Subscriber!

Other baby tip (sorry)…I am nursing longer and pumping to cut out formula. Formula can get expensive, especially with the healthy eaters I have. =) Thanks!

Another way to save is by pulling out the china for parties instead of buying disposable plates, cups, and plasticware. It just sits in a pretty display for most of the year anyways, why not actually use it for once?:)

I’m hooked on these great deal finding websites! This year, the holidays are particularly challenging as both my husband and I have been laid off – me for almost the full year! I’ve turned to the internet for help and have found ways to save on groceries and lots of other goodies. In addition to the couponcravings site, I use mygrocerydeals.com and retailmenot.com to look for coupons, free shipping deals, on-line deals, rebates and all sorts of goodies to save wherever I can. We dialed our spending way, way back – on mygrocerydeals.com, you can pull the advertised items from your favorite stores right to a shopping list AND look in the coupon database for additional savings. Since we live near many of the major retailers, I don’t mind working more than just my favorite grocery store in to my shopping if it will save a dollar here or there. It all adds up!

I spread the word on my blog https://www.beckyrasmussen.blogspot.com

My third and final tip: Feed your children whole grain cereals rather than cold breakfast cereal from the box. All but a few brands, even so-called organic healf food cereals are produced by a process called extrusion that subjects the grains to very high pressure at high temperatures (Grape Nuts is one exception). This process breaks up the carefully organized proteins they contain, creating neurotoxic (nerve damaging) protein fragments.

You’ll save vasts amounts of money on not only on the amount of milk consumed with cold cereal, but the whole grains cost less and are more filling. My favorites are Oat Groats, Amaranth, and 9 Grain Cracked Cereal. We sweeten them with a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup and a pinch of cinnamon. Yummy!

Last Christmas, I got my husband a fancy coffeemaker… instead of his usual Starbucks every morning, he now takes his coffee to work. That’s MORE than a dollar a day!

Tip #1 Eliminate the expense of date night babysitters by participating in a Childcare Co-op. We were mortified to realize we were spending $100 a month or more in date night babysitters. We enrolled three other couples in our neighborhood to join. The first Friday or Saturday of each month one couple watches all the kids (basically they host a party but the kids come fed) from 5:00p.m.-9:00p.m. Each weekend the couple rotates, you come home to your house the way you left it, and the kids have a blast!

    I’m already subscribed.

Tip #2 Our budget was really tight and there was no longer money for extra curricular activities (ballet, piano lessons, karate, etc.), Theme Parks, The Theatre, or Anywhere that required an admission fee for that matter. My husband and I didn’t want our children to feel deprived so we dedicated more family time to teach them the night games we grew up with such as Sardines, No Bears are Out to Night, Steal the Flag and others. They’ve become a weekly tradition with a number of happy memories and inside jokes. Our kids seem as happy as ever!

Okay so I posted a review on Stumble, but it showed up as “You” rather than my name at 3:06 MST. Anyway, its also on my blog
    https://www.beckyrasmussen.blogspot.com

Tip #3 This year I couldn’t afford pre-school tuition for my 4 year old son so I recruited 3 other moms to participate in “Pre-School Pals” with us. Each mom takes one week a month to present a letter, number, and activity surrounding the lesson. We each emphasizes the letters and numbers learned throughout the week with our children. The kids love it and are right on track with other pre-schools.

My tip to save at leased $1 a day….is to buy your favorite pop when it is on sale and/or you have coupons. We all are guilty of sometimes buying it at the machines that are over $1 and we can do that multiple times a week.
So, buy your cans or bottles when they have an awesome sale and you will definately save a $1 a day.

My 2nd money saving tip is really try and keep most of your lights off in the house, conserve your water use and run the dishwasher just once a week, and last…try to keep your heat down to 60 degrees at night. All of that should save you a good $1 or so a day. :)

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
