I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!
Just in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.
Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.
So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.
In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.
So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!
Methods of Entry*
Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!
YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.
1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!
2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.
3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!
*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.
It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!
Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card
This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment. The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!
While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

My family saves money by turning our thermostat down at night and turning our heat completely off when we are not at home. We also pack my husbands lunch to avoid going out to eat. I also try to do multiple loads of laundry in one day so that the dryer is already warm and set to go for the next load. I do the same with the oven and try to bake multiple things in one day.

My money-saving tip: shop the grocery ads and stick to your list! Try buy the items that are on sale that week and by pairing them with coupons you’ll save even more!!

I’m also a subscriber, and my second tip would be to use compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy star appliances, and be intentional about conserving energy (keeping lights off when not in use, turn fans off when not in the room, etc.). It’s helped us to cut our electric bill by quite a bit.

Brewing coffee at home instead of buying it on my way to work!

Tip #2: Be a thrift store scavenger!! I buy most of my son’s clothes at the thrift store. Believe it or not…he wears mostly Adidas, Nike, and Ralph Lauren clothing. You just have to look! Of course, if he needs something for a special occasion or event I might have to buy it, but I might already have it! Buy ahead and off season…I usually find his closet to be so full it’s a sin!! America’s Thrift Stores are AWESOME. If you have one within an hour to an hour and a half away it is WELL worth your drive once a month to check them out. If you call ahead, they’ll usually tell you when they stock – get there soon after!

I’m also a subscriber so here is my second tip: pair store coupons with manufactured ones. Many stores (including target and CVS) allow you to stack your coupon with one of theirs. For example – I always try to stack a Huggies coupon on top of one from CVS. There have been many times that I’ve gotten diapers for less that 12 cents each :) Can’t beat that!!

Use part bleach with water and spray on counter tops, toilets, etc to clean. Saves more money than using those expensive disinfecting wipes or pricey cleaners.

I just blogged about you too! Second Tip:
Request movies and books online from your local library and have them notify you when they are in for pick-up! Saves you gas and time and money!

Tip #3: Find a group to join such as MOPS…or start your own! There are a ton of great mommy groups and/or recycling groups where you can bring things you’ve accumulated that you won’t use. You can place your items on the “swap” table to trade out for a “new” treasure brought in by someone else.

I cut out a dollar a day to help a boy in Haiti go to school and eat by not getting my diet Pepsi fix from a convenient store. I buy 2 liter bottles and fill up a cup to take in the car with me. It has saved A LOT!

I buy ringpops and treats for my kids after holidays at 75% off and keep them in the car so that whenever we are at a store and they are asking for something at the checkout, I can promise them that I have one in the car for them. Ths alone has saved tons.

I keep my tires full. As much chasing around as we have to do every day in the car it saves way more than $1 a day in fuel.

We home school, my son’s in college AND we have two businesses in our home. We use our printer a LOT. We have saved well more than $1.00/day by refilling our ink cartridges instead of buying new. Never had any problems, either. It only takes a few minutes, but well worth it. To say nothing of not having to run out and buy new and throw away/recycle old. Good all around.
