In today’s technology-driven world, the importance of backing up data can’t be understated. Whether you keep important documents or priceless photos on your hard drive, you run the risk of losing it all without proper backups.
The Seagate FreeAgent Go portable hard drive is a great solution for securing your data, especially if your family has more than one computer.
The FreeAgent Go will makes it easy to backup your entire computer and then some. Seagate sent me one of these little contraptions to try out for myself, and seriously, it’s so simple that even my 5 year old could set it up. I just plugged it into the USB port, and the installation process started up automatically.
Features that I love (besides the cool red and chrome colors):
- Automated scheduled backups – one less thing I have to remember is always fine by me!
- Syncs folders between computers – I often switch between my laptop and netbook, so this will be a huge timesaver.
- Docking station – makes keeping it connected to your main computer easy, but it’s also easy to hook up to another computer!
- Password protection of the drive – no worries about curious little people erasing my backed up files!
With 500GB of memory, this external hard drive should have plenty of space to backup my photos, documents, and iTunes music collection safely for many years to come.

I confess to not backing up because I don’t really know how or have the technology to do it! I would love something simple enough for your 5 year old! Maybe then I could figure it out, lol.

Having had my hard drive fail several years ago, I make sure to backup my data. However, as hard drives get larger, backing up using cd roms is time consuming, but I dare not backup for fear of losing all my pictures and financial documents!

I’d love this to backup our kids’ pictures. I’m afraid I don’t even have any kind of backup for them at this moment. Not good…
Thanks for the chance!

I would back-up all my picures of my kids because the ones on my computer are the only copies. I could really use one of these.

My husband is a photographer. We use external hard drives for digital storage and I always keep my eyes open for good buys. He really likes the portable ones because he backs every shoot numerous times. I’m not lucky, but would love to win this. Thanks

I don’t back up anything on my computer, but there’s nothing to loose either.

For now, I try and stay on top of making CD’s for each year. And of course I need to make duplicates of those CD’s just to be extra careful case. And I keep buying new SD cards when the old ones get full. I would love to have an external hard drive. I have actually been watching the papers hoping to find a good deal on one.

My mom passed away two years ago and I have a ton of pictures of her that we took (she had cancer and knew she was dying) and I would be completely devastated if I lost my pictures & videos of her.

I had the home movies of my kids on my computer and the drive failed before I could back everything up. Luckily I was able to save the videos by sending the hard drive to a recovery service. I’m going to buy an external backup drive anyway, but hopefully I’ll win so I won’t have to.

I don’t back up as much as I should and my computer is full! I need more room and would love to be able to save photos, embroidery projects, etc. somewhere safe.
Heather
I could use a much larger external for video – I love to send them to my husband deployed overseas!

My photos. I have lost some before and it is the worst feeling. With photos getting larger and larger the external hard drive is the way to go.
