New Crayola Crayons were one of my favorite back-to-school supplies as a kid. There was just something about a brand new pack of shiny, multi-colored crayons that inspired me to want to create colorful images of hearts and rainbows and all things sparkly and pretty that the imaginations of young girls conjure up. That waxy scent still takes me right back to the first day of 2nd grade, kind of like the smell of Playdoh reminds me of rainy day fun. . .
I’m so glad that Crayola products have stood the test of time and are now inspiring a new generation of imaginations. And I’m happy to share with you about how you can join in the fun!
Every Tuesday night through the month of August, Crayola is sponsoring “Girls Night Out” on Twitter – the mommy social gathering featuring colorful and engaging discussions on all things back-to-school. Crayola has teamed up with MomItForward.com, the creator of “Girls Night Out” (GNO), to bring you the “Crayola Creativitycast.” The weekly series of GNO discussions will feature a new topic each week like “Affordable Fun 101” and “Back to School Survival Guide,” and all GNO participants will have the chance to win great prizes!
For more details about tonight’s #GNO chat and how to participate, go here.
Don’t worry if you’ve already got plans during these events – you also have the opportunity to win one of four Crayola Creativity Packs right here on Deal Seeking Mom!

My favorite memory as a child drove my mom crazy when I learned that crayons melted when you placed them on top of the heater vent and I could make them into different shapes and they still worked!

When we first got a microwave oven, I used to use the crayon sharpener to make huge mounds of shaved wax, in the hope of melting it all down again to make a candle.
When I had filled the jar, I suspended some twine in it and stuck it in the microwave for maybe 10 minutes.
Did it make a candle? no.
Did boiling crayon wax with no cover make a huge mess in our new microwave ? yes.
Let’s hope that story wins me some new crayons.

My favorite memories with crayola from childhood are on winter days sitting by the fireplace with my mom coloring in coloring books. My mom would always get really detailed and I would want to copy her type of coloring. Then at the end we would put our names and dates on the page. I still have some of the coloring books and they always remind me of the wonderful times we had.

One of my fondest coloring memories (besides opening and smelling a brand new box of crayons at the beginning of each new school year) was just laying on the floor with my siblings and coloring in my Winnie the Pooh and Carebears coloring books!

My favorite memory with crayola was when we were younger, we would get all the crayons that had broken and melt them together to make crayon rocks! I remember it being so much fun, and they make so many different colors! I now do this with my children!

My favorite memory was when I went to the Crayola Factory in Winfield Kansas on a field trip, I remember seeing the giant vats of wax. At the end of the tour, we all got a brand new box of crayons!! I was so happy, art was my favorite subject.

I’m with you on the smell. There is just something about crayola crayons! Now that my boys are enjoying coloring, I like to sit down with them and create too! I’m certainly not an artist but hey, they don’t know that yet. :)

All I have to do is open a box of crayons and it brings me right back to my childhood. Just the smell reminds me of art. I too remember coloring on the walls. It is a good thing we have the magic eraser so our kids are not is as much trouble as I was.
