Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!
Child Passenger Safety Week is September 19-25 this year, and it is a great time to check over your current safety seat situation and make sure your kids are secure and plan for what you will need as your children grow. With many parents not knowing the laws or the guidelines for when to move their children between rear-facing safety seats and convertible seats to booster seats and beyond, this is definitely a topic worth paying attention too and reading up on.
Research done by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has shown that risk of injury to children is reduced by 60% when a belt-positioning booster seat is used rather than seat belts alone. For instance, in my state of Ohio, as of last year, 1/6/09, the law states that children between 4 and 8 years of age need to be secured in a booster seat. This is to protect children in the case of an accident who are not yet as large as an adult, but who have outgrown their car seat.
A few features of the Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat:
- Easy to install and use.
- Height and width are adjustable with one hand
- Fabric cover is removable and machine washable
- Converts to backless booster for children 40 lbs – 100 lbs
- “EPS” Energy Absorbing Foam provides enhanced impact protection
- Triple side protection: head, shoulders and lumbar
- Deep side wings support child’s head and neck while napping

This would be great for when my son is a little older.

The law in CA is that each child is required to be properly restrained in
the back seat unless child is six years or older or weighs 60 pounds or more. I have two that will soon be moving into booster seats. This would be great.
Paula
Hello Facebook Friend… Thanks for the contest entry. We could really use a new booster seat!!

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, when children outgrow their booster seats, (usually at age 8 or when they are 4’9″ tall) they can use the adult safety belts in the back seat, if they fit properly (lap belt lies across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt fits across the chest).

In Kansas you have to be in a booster from 4-7 years of age unless the child is over 80lbs or over 4’9″. I’d love to win this for my daughter!!!
Paula
Indiana says kids have to be in a booster seat up to age 8. Why they use age vs pounds I have no idea. the safety factor is their size not how long they have been on planet earth. When my son was 8 he was bigger than some twelve year old kids and now that he is 12 he has friends the size of 8 year olds…. Kids grow at different rates you would think the goverment coudl see that and adjust their laws.
