In LaRue Across America, Ike’s plan for a peaceful cruise with Mrs. LaRue are thwarted when their neighbor, Mrs. Hibbins, falls suddenly ill. Mrs. LaRue suggests that she and Ike care for her cats while Mrs. Hibbins is in the hospital, inviting them along on the cruise. But cats aren’t allowed, and Mrs. LaRue decides to take them all on a week’s vacation of road-tripping. Ike is beside himself and quickly takes up his pen to tell us why!

Join award-winner Mark Teague on this romping road trip across America. Readers can follow along on the maps of the U.S. that span the endpapers. Teague drives us to the story’s satisfying conclusion, and we are left with one profound question: Can cats and dogs really be friends?

I love the colorful and engaging illustrations in this book! The story is a fun read, although probably best suited to an older child who will understand the humor and be able to sit through the entire story. It was a bit too lengthy to be a bedtime story for my 3 and 4-year-olds, but my 6, 8, and 9-year-olds thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Have road tripped from NY to Ca…several times. Road trip bingo is the best…..would use 100 to find more eductaional things for my youngsters to do while traveling…

    I have literally been all over the US – on “road trips” disquised as vacations by my parents :) The only state that I have not been to is Alaska and that’s because I don’t like the cold!

    I wanted to go to Troy for a show and some shopping this past weekend. With gas at $4 a gallon I just couldn’t justify it. I would like to go there and I never did a road trip around the country.

    I would like to go to Washington. I have never done a road trip around the country. These days it is getting pretty hard to justify the gas expense.

    I would love to take my kids to Washington DC.. We have done the trip from NJ to FL a few times but havent stopped in DC

    I would just love to pack up the car and head out West! Before kids, we took a driving trip from Seattle down to San Fransisco down Route 1 and had the most amazing time!
