When I was 19, I spent the summer as the Arts & Crafts Counselor for a local day camp that catered to underprivileged children. The pay was next to nothing (well under minimum wage at the time), but nothing could have prepared me better to become a mom of five. The experience was beyond rewarding in so many other ways.

I remember spending days flipping through catalogs before camp started to find just the right supplies for the summer while staying within the meager budget allotted by our director. One of my favorite crafts was the pre-cut wood shapes, like these Classic Wood Crafts from Creativity for Kids. They encouraged the kids to get creative and kept the occupied for hours on end. I loved to see the pride on their faces when they showed me their creations — everything from frogs to flowers to birds and more.

    I follow you on FB & emails. I’m not the most creative person so these kits would be wonderful to have. I know my son would love the Shrinky Dinks Monster Lab & my daughter the paints.

    Create your own books. My son loves to read and create things, so that is the perfect combination.

    My four year old son would love the book, paints or shrinky dinks. It would be great together time.

    Wood crafts, without a doubt! My kids have a hot glue gun, and they know how to use it. Lately they pull things out of the recycling bin, but all those little wood shapes look fantastic, too!
