Did you know that September is National College Savings Month? What better time to start saving to give your kids a little extra help in obtaining a college education!

I had the opportunity to learn about the CollegeAdvantage 529 Savings Plan at the Ohio State Fair last month, and I was really inspired to start a savings plan for our kids. I’ve always been adamant that I’d like for our children to have some responsibility in paying for their education so that they don’t take it for granted, but I’d definitely like to be able to assist them in their efforts, so this seems like a fantastic option for us.

Those are some pretty compelling reasons to open a 529 savings plan if you ask me.

    We do have a 529 for my oldest. And, I also have a College Advantage Fund for him. In fact, he started at Kent State just two weeks ago, and I wrote our first payment for that account.

    Our other child is just 4, and we have one of each for him, as well. I would love to add $100 to that one. Think how much it will have grown, by the time he goes to college!

I hope that’s okay! AND, with you telling me they are giving away a scholarship a week, I went there and entered for that, too! We need all the help we can get!!!

    We opened 529’s for both our daughters as soon as we received their social security numbers as infants. Our current contributions are small, but every little bit is going to help.
