Walgreens: FREE BIC Highlighters + Pilot RRs Rolling

July 21, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski 44 Comments

$1 off 2 BIC Pens coupon
There’s a new $1 off 2 BIC Stationery Products printable on Coupons.com currently. BIC highlighters are $0.49 at Walgreens this week, so you can get two for FREE with this coupon!

(Thanks, Abundant Food Savings!)

From reader Laura on the Pilot G2 Pen deal:

“Also, I discovered yesterday that the $1 RR from the Pilot G2 pens is rolling! If you notice at the bottom of the RR, it simply says “Thank you for your purchase.” with no mention of the RR being sponsored by Pilot or any other brand.

I used my $1 RR to purchase another Pilot G2 pens just to test it out: bought (1) Pilot G2 2-pk pens, used $1 RR from previous Pilot G2 pen purchase, paid nothing OOP, and got another $1 RR! I repeated this 2 more times at a different store and it worked both times. Both stores had plenty of these pens in stock. I’m planning to stock up on red Pilot pens for grading – teachers love them!”

Pilot G2 Gel Pens (2-pk.), $1
Get $1 RR

FREE after RR!

Laura also mentioned that she saw a sign advertising that Colgate Total will be FREE after RRs for the week of 8/9. Hold on to any good Colgate coupons you have for a money maker!

Hi Tessa! RRs are Register Rewards. I think this link will help you understand.

My Walgreens wouldn’t let me do this. For my first transaction, I was buying the highlighters and pens. The cashier wouldn’t take my coupon for the highlighters b/c it beeped and said item not found. Since .49 each was a good deal anyway, I said fine and took my coupon back. She wouldn’t let me purchase another set of the pilot pens in a separate transaction b/c she said it was one per customer. I thought it was one per transaction. Anyways, I had a cranky one-year-old with me and didn’t feel like arguing. I hope this deal works for others.

I had a problem this AM as well. 2 BIC highlighters = 98 cents. The coupon is for $1/2. The WAGS computer will NOT take these coupons. The cashier suggested I buy another (i.e. 3 x 49 cents =$1.47) to use the coupon.
    I asked for a mgr.
They over rode the computer by manually entering 98 cents manufacturer coupon.
    It was embarassing…..
I have seen this elsewhere as well. e.g. $10/$10 purchase at JCPenney…..they will NOT use the coupon unless your pretax total is $10 or more.

For me, it isn’t worth the hassle to push these stores all the time. It is easier to just clearly meet the requirements of the stores’ policy/computers, etc.

Actually, it’s store policy to adjust the coupon down to the correct price. I don’t look at it as a hassle – I look at it as an opportunity to educate the stores on proper coupon procedures thereby ensuring smoother future transactions for myself and others. I can understand how others may not want to be bothered with it though.

    Tara….
Is there a printable policy (like I have seen for other stores/Walmart) that I can carry w/ me should this happen again?

I couldn’t find anything…..otherwise it is just my opinion vs the manager.

thanks for your site, BTW :)

I had the cashier adjust my coupon as well. Sometime the cashier just does not know this. This happens at a lot of stores when there is a sale. The funny thing is that the store will get the overage. LOL! They lose nothing.

just came from Walgreens and according to the store manager as of 9am EST this morning corporate sent out a memo to limit the Pilot pen deal to 2. Of course that doesn’t stop you from buying 2 and then going back later to buy 2 more when a different shift is working, but just FYI before you get there and expect to be able to roll several pens.

Interesting! My manager told me it was store policy NOT to override the coupon price. If I’d been thinking, I would’ve grabbed the 9 cent highlighter to make up the difference and only paid about 5 cents for the 8 highlighter packs I was getting. I wasn’t thinking, so I paid the dollar. In the G2 RR like the above deal said. ***IT DID NOT GIVE ME ANOTHER RR, so I wouldn’t chance it as rolling.

I’m guessing that the pilot pens probably were rolling up until last night when corporate got wise and put a stop to it.

I tried to roll the g2 pens deal and it did not work in VA. Cashier said, “Corporate put a stop to it because people were abusing the system.” I had my 3 kids with me. I bought the first G2 for cash and handed the RR to the first kid, when it didn’t roll, I just had the other kids pay cash for the other two. Cashier insisted it was one per person so we couldn’t buy more. Still an OK deal even with “losing the one RR-$3.00 OOP for $12.00 worth of pens and $2.00 in RR left.

I just got back from Walgreens and also had trouble. My Q wouldn’t take on the highliters….so I asked the manager to adjust the price to be $0.50 for each pack instead of just the $0.49. He did and the coupon scanned just fine at that point. I didn’t even try to roll over any of the G2 pens. I just walked out with my 1 pack of pens and 2 packs of h.liters for just $1.07 (and took the RR with me).

I tried the rolling thing-didn’t work for me this morning. (I’m in Texas, by the way. :)
I also did the BIC highlighter thing and the coupon didn’t work, so my cashier read it carefully, decided it was legitimate, said, “stupid computer,” and manually entered the coupon. Worked! :)

I’m in Ohio and my RR would not roll over for the G2 Pens. I was expecting a $1 RR to spit out after paying with the initial $1 RR and it didn’t. Oh well!

Just curious – for those of you who tried rolling your Pilot G2 RRs, does it say “Thank you for your purchase.” at the bottom of the RR, or does it say something else?

I decided to try the Bic highlighters since my favorite cashier was working. I even asked her before I gave her the highlighters though if she would be able to adjust down a coupon and she said yeah sure. Then of course when she scanned it the screen said ITEM NOT FOUND. She just handed it back to me and said I don’t know what’s wrong with this one, it doesn’t work!!! That was why I specifically asked her in the beginning if she could adjust down a coupon. Her being so nice to me other times and all I just told her to take the highlighters off.

I also needed to buy three packs of the highlighters to be allowed to use the coupon. It was worth it, though, it cost me 60 cents for 3 packages.

Debbie – how strange! I just tried it myself using a RR from Sunday and of course it didn’t work. The clerk saw my items and looked at the RR that I was going to use, then punched something from a slip of paper into the cash register first before she completed the sale, so I wonder if there’s some special code that that Wags emailed to the stores that prevents the RRs from printing.

I’m in Texas and also had to buy three packs of the highlighters to be allowed to use the coupon. First they said the coupon didn’t work b/c it couldn’t be combined with any other offer and b/c the highlighters were already on sale the coupon wouldn’t work. I asked for manager, who said that I just needed to buy another item b/c the total was only 98 cents and coupon was $1.00 off. I picked up a 9 cent folder but it still said “item not found”, so another manager came up and said I had to buy another BIC item so I ended up buying the third marker set then the coupon worked. I apologized to those in line behind me and let a few cut in line ahead of me each time I had to wait on a manager.

Yeah I went today for the highlighters. I tried to explain to the cashier that all she had to do was adjust the price of the coupon, and she called the manager instead. He told me I needed to buy 3 packs also. I fibbed and told him people there have done it in the past… but it was a no-go. Oh well. 47 cents for 3 packs is not bad at all. I gave each of my kids a pack for school.

I just bought 5 packs of the highlighters and used the two coupons. So I paid 0.45 for 5 or 0.09 each!
