Does your Walgreen’s allow coupons over the amount? I feel like mine beep all the time when the coupon price exceeds the sale price. Any experience with that? The only time they don’t beep with overage is when I am getting the price to create an overage by combining a Walgreen’s coupon with a MQ (because the original price is not below the MQ price but the combined price is). Am I making sense? Any advice?

They should just adjust the coupon amount down to the price of the item. Some cashiers aren’t trained very well and don’t know to do this, but usually if you explain it, they’ll do it.

    Kim,

The register will beep if the coupon is greater than the Price of the Item, and Tara is right that Walgreen’s policy is t adjust the coupon, but it is a YMMV situation.

If you don’t want the Register to beep. Try buying 2 of the Ecotrin for a total of $4.00 and using 1 $1.00/1 Any Ecotrin Product from 1/25 insert.

Since the total price of both items exceeds the total of both coupons you shouldn’t have any beeps. You will only get 1 $2.00 RR, but you should still make $0.75 on the transaction. It’s not as great, but if you are worried about beeps, or your store will not adjust the coupons then it’s a good solution.

    Hope that helps!

You will also have to use the $2.25 printable coupon. Sorry! I forgot to put that part in my last comment!

Thanks for all the feedback. How do I explain how to adjust the coupon? I have said before: “I think you can adjust the coupon down to the price of the item,” but I have gotten blank stares. Any advice?

I have problems at Walgreens with the thing beeping at me too! I still don’t understand why either. I give them coupons and I still have a balance left so I start giving them rr’s. Usually it just starts beeping and they tell me I can’t use them. Does anybody know why I can’t use them as long as I’m not getting any overage?

Alicia…that’s one I can answer (if I may). The fine print of the Register Reward says that the RR acts as a manufacturer’s coupon and the amount of manufacturer’s coupons plus the amount of RR you use cannot exceed the total number of items in your purchase. Soooo…if you are using newspaper or printable coupons for ALL of your items, you can’t use your RRs to cover the rest of the total. This is a MAJOR difference between Walgreen’s RRs and CVS ECBs, because you can use as many ECBs as you want up to the subtotal…but at WAGs, the amount of coupons/RRs cannot exceed the total number of items. I usually buy a small “filler” if I want to use a RR but have manufacturer’s coupons for all my other items.

The rr’s said” the number of Manufacturer coupons/register rewards cannot be exceed the number of items in the transcation” so if you buy 2 item and use 2 Manu’s coupons then you can not use rr even you still have balance.

Is anyone having trouble printing coupons from smartsource? I used the first time installation instructions for firefox users and every time I hit print to print the coupons I’ve selected it sends me back to the installation page. I’ve checked and I have installed the printer. Anyone else run into this? I’m itching to print out all these good coupons!!!

I am a Walgreens employee and I’ve tried and failed to get deals like this in the past (i.e.- FREE Glucerna cereal with $5 coupon). My store manager told me that there is no way to adjust the coupon or purchase price so that the coupon will work when the coupon is more than the purchase price. I was very sad to learn this.

That’s very odd because the stores here do it for me regularly. I’ll have to watch more carefully next time to see what they do.

Allison, I had the same problems earlier printing the coupons in Firefox, but they printed fine for me in Internet Explorer. Sometimes they print differently using different browsers.

Kim-I tried with Internet Explorer and it still did the same thing. The tab at the top says coupons printing but the screen is showing the installation on the printer. This is so frustrating b/c these coupons are so good! I was talking to firefox support earlier today and they said their add on for the coupon printer might have a bug or it might not be compatible with my printer?

When I try to print in Internet Explorer it’s saying unable to print-check that your default printer is turned on and working properly. It’s plugged in and on! Help someone!!!

I tried twice to print from Firefox, each time it caused a crash. I’m now going to try it in IE. Here’s hoping it works.

I went to walgreens today in a differwnt town to get the Glade candles since my Walgreens was out. I was looking through the clearance stuff and notice mens Speedstick on clearance for .70. Ha d a coupon for 1.50 off and they wouldn’t take it and said that they couldn’t adjust the coupon either? I think she just didn’t want to be bothered with it actually! GRRRRRRRRR At my Walgreens they already know me and to expect several transactions and multiple coupons!

You can explain “adjusting the coupon down to the price of the item” in this way. You buy an item for $2. Your coupon is for $2.25. Most stores will overwrite the face value of the coupon and give you ONLY $2 credit because your item cost only $2. The stores are supposed to submit the revised face value to the redemption center for the revised amount, but I’m currently having an ongoing discussion with Target corporate about this. Seems they require adjustment of the coupon for ME but then turn around and submit the coupon for full face value credit. When I asked about this, they tell me that that’s “proprietary information.” To keep everybody honest, if they overwrite your coupon, you might ask them to actually write the “revised” value on your coupon before stashing it.

BTW, I can never get Smartsource coupons to print even though I’ve done all their minimal help menu says. Anybody know how to actually contact them? Any fixes fixes for Smartsource that anyone knows about?

Ok, I went to my WAGs today to try the Ecotrin (along with other deals), and the cashier priced the Ecotrin up to $2.25. I was AMAZED!!! When I went back to do it again, another cashier was at the register (sigh). He understood what I meant but wanted to run it by the manager. The manager delayed coming to the register, the previous cashier stopped by and encouraged cashier #2 to just adjust the price up…he did so, and I got the deal to work TWICE today for a profit of $4!!! Thanks for all your help with this. For those reading this, I would definitely say that you may not get as much help at other stores…it really depends on the cashiers/managers. Hope you have as good an experience as I did.

I’m glad I’m not the only one having problems with coupons that exceed the price of products. Tara, please pass along any helpful hints that you get — I have asked at several local Walgreens and they have all told me that they cannot adjust coupon amounts ( the “friendly” cashiers are saying the same thing!) When purchasing the Ecotrin today I was not able to use the $2.25 printable, but it printed out a $2 off 125 ct. Ecotrin coupon in addition to the $2 RR. The cashier was trying to help me out and applied the $2 coupon to my second transaction – I was afraid that it wouldn’t print out the RR, but it did print out the RR and another $2 coupon. And the coupon did come off even though I only purchased the 45 ct. Ecotrin!!! Also, look for coupons on the Bayer display ; the Bayer is free after RR but the $1 coupons will make it a moneymaker. I did this at CVS last week and was happy to find that Walgreens has the same coupons!

This is just one of those things that varies by store and even by cashier. My cashier keyed in the coupon as a general coupon for the full $2.25 this afternoon.
