Can anyone tell Leif UPromise is contributing to private colleges, yet. When I signed up quite some time ago they would only ear mark for public ones, so I stopped using my account.

I have signed up and enter all my store card numbers but it also asks for my debit and cc numbers. Is this something that you all have done and is safe? I am just uncomfortable with doing this and wanted to get some feedback. Thanks.

Miki, you don’t have to register your credit cards to use the ecoupons. Just be sure to register your store loyalty card so the ecoupons will be deposited into your account upon purchase!

Has anyone ever used the money in their account? I can imagine that it would a terribly complicated process.

I just withdrew $800 from my account, it was no big deal at all. I actually used it to pay off my car loan. They just sent me a check.

Holly, Upromise contributions can be used for any college expense. If you choose to link your Upromise account to a 529 account, the money will be subject to 529 rules. Check out https://www.upromise.com/welcome/how-it-works/redemption for more info.

Hi Holly, Jeff from Upromise here. There are a number of ways to use the money in your Upromise account. Here’s some information on that:

    https://www.upromise.com/welcome/how-it-works/redemption

But to answer your question specifically, the money is yours to use as you like. You can withdraw it and use it to pay for expenses at any college, public or private.

And the other options that you’ll see on our site are transferring your earnings into a 529 account or pay down an eligible student loan.

I hope that helps and I’m happy to answer any other questions.

Thank you for helping me however what do you do with a store like Publix who does not have a loyalty card? How will I use the ecoupons there? I see where you can register your debit card and i wondered if this was safe to do. Anyone have theirs registered and care to help me out? Thanks!

Miki: I have had my debit and credit cards registered at UPromise for YEARS with no problems at all. If I use one of the cards at a participating merchant, the savings go automatically into my UP account — even if I didn’t know I was earning. I haven’t paid much attention, so my account isn’t all that big — maybe these eCoupons will give it a boost. hth

I also have had a Upromise account for over 5 years and have earned over $2000. I have learned from their website how to earn money in the account. Most has come from applying for and using the Upromise credit card which I use for all possible purchases and then I pay it off each month – I earn 1% on all purchases from that which usually turns out to be $15-$20/month. I prefer this kind of reward card rather getting airline miles or whatever. Also my normal gas station is Exxon where you earn 2%. I shop online through the Upromise website and earn money that way. There are so many ways to earn this money if you take the time to learn about it. If you don’t, you’re leaving money on the table that literally can add up to thousands of dollars of college expenses for you, your kids, grandkids, or whoever. It’s a great program and I feel completely safe registering all my cc’s with them.

I’m not so sure about using a debit card. I suppose that if you are absolutely certain that debits CAN NOT BE made without your pin* number then maybe it’s alright. However, my debit card is attached to my checking account which holds several thousands of dollars and by someone using or finding my card it could wipe out my entire account. Clark Howard, http://www.clarkhoward.com cautions his listeners and website fans against carrying a debit card. I guess with some, a pin* isn’t necessary, maybe that’s an older card (?)

I would like to share one thing based on my experience, providing your credit or debit card number is truly a risk. As much as possible, I would want to provide other means of personal info like SSS ID number or driver’s license as an example. You should be vigilant always.
