Upcycling a Cashmere Sweater into Wrist Warmers

February 16, 2011 by Deal Seeking Mom 5 Comments

upcycled cashmere wrist warmers

My favorite cashmere sweater has two small holes in it, but I can’t bear to part with it, so I was excited to come across this tutorial for upcycling a cashmere sweater into wrist warmers!

How do you upcycle or repurpose your favorite clothes when they get worn out?

Super cute! We’re very big on upcycling in our house too ;)

Favorite thing to upcycle right now: those adorable tops my kids outgrow that I can’t bear to see go (cute graphic prints or funky patterns).

My kids are cuddlers and love tons of pillows on their beds, so I cut a rectangle, or a fun shape like stars, out of the front and back of the shirt and sew ’em up into a little pillow. We always use stuffing from old stuffed animals that need new life, or right now we’ve been using stuffing from their old crib bumpers (makes so many little pillows!).

I’ve also given them as baby gifts by adding a little rattle inside (also taken from things we already have around the house- like those little baby booties with rattles in the toes) and sewing ribbon ‘tags’ around the seams.

    Cute and simple!

what a great idea! One thing I do is upcycle those layered longsleeved tshirts..its so easy! My son always outgrows them because his arms get too long, or its summer time and no longer need the long sleeved part..but the shirt itself still fits lengthwise…so i cut off the long sleeves up to where the tshirt starts underneath and you cant tell at all!!

the body of that sweater would make a great pillow!!! you could add those cute buttons to it. I think Martha Stewart did something cute like that in her late summer/fall magazine….you can fold the bottom over to look like an envelope…nice color splash!!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
