Text Message Your Way to Freebies with ShopText

February 15, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski 51 Comments

ShopText Text Message FreebiesDid you know that you can text message for freebies? Maybe you’ve seen other posts around and have been a little skeptical, but read on to see how you can get some hot freebies by sending a simple text message from your cell phone.

Of course, please keep in mind, standard text messaging rates apply per your cell phone provider contract.

You can save yourself a few messages by first setting up your account online at ShopText.

  • Register your cell phone number.
  • Enter in the code that is text messaged to you.
  • Fill out your address information. Credit card info is not necessary.

After that you’re ready to text for freebies! Magazines often have ShopText-enabled advertisements.  You just text the keyword listed to 467467, and you’ll receive a confirmation.  Occasionally they might ask you to reply with to an additional question.

You can even check the status of you freebies under the My ShopText tab.  It lists any requests from the past three months as well as the date requested. I love this feature!

And because I’m sure some of you may have no idea how to send a text message, here’s a great text messaging tutorial I found.

Is there somewhere that lists the codes available for shoptext? I’ve looked on their site and don’t see any.

Can we start a thread on this blog that lists the codes as we all come across them?

Hi Shannon, I’ll be posting new codes as I find them, and of course I will post any codes that readers submit to me. I’ll do it as a new post so everyone is aware when it’s updated. Thanks!

Thank you! I just tried one of these that I found in a magazine recently, and I think it’s super neat.

This is a great way to collect samples! I already received two of them I texted for a few weeks ago. The best part is that samples using come with some sort of coupon attached to the packaging! Double bonus!

I tried to sign up, but this does not work with a Tracfone – they block “Premium messaging” (messages that could incur a surcharge or additional fee). Oh well…

    Hi Jessie Lynn,
You said you found a code in a magazine if you dont mind sharing what magazine was it and what was the code for it? I’m new to this and I’m pretty excited.

Yes, the soup one did not work for me either. I guess that has ended. I did find another code for clean and clear makeup wipes in my march cosmo: NOMKUP, but if you used the above code you cannot use this one.

What are the texting fees? If you have text privileges with your cell phone are there additional charges? If there is $1.00 fee to send the text this probably is not a great deal. Looking forward to some feedback on this.

Karin, the texting fees are whatever your cell phone provider charges you to send a text message. If you have an unlimited text messaging package, you won’t incur any fees. ShopText does not impose fees for requesting the samples.

ShopText does not charge you anything. Any charges you incur will be through your cell phone provider and will depend on the contract that you signed when you purchased your phone. For example, my contract allows for up to 200 text messages per month at no charge. Any text messages I send or receive above and beyond that amount are $0.10 each.

Just finished signing up for shoptext. The code for the clean and clear makeup remover has been changed to DISSOLVE and there is an offer for crest whitestrips. The code for that is CREST.

How long does it usually take to recieve the code on your cell phone when you are registering? I’ve done it twice and I waited 10 minutes each time and I still havent gotten a text on my phone.

If you are in St. Louis you can text stlchevy to 38681 and they will send you a few questions to answer, and then you have to go test drive a chevy at a local dealership and then they give you a code and you submit that and get a $50 Mastercard. End the end of July though, so you have to hurry.
