Taste of Italy Giveaway: Crisco Olive Oil Prize Package

March 28, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

Huh – did you say Crisco Olive Oil?

Crisco certainly isn’t the first brand that comes to my mind when I think “olive oil,” so I’m assuming it’s the same for you all. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it’s actually quite good. I’ve been successfully substituting it for my more expensive olive oils over the past few weeks.

Here’s just one example of the tasty recipes that you can create with it.

Mediterranean Salad

mediterranean-salad

Salad:
1 pint grape tomatoes (use a mixture of red and yellow for added interest), halved
1 6-ounce container Bocconcini (small fresh mozzarella balls), drained
1 paper thin slice proscuitto ham, finely chopped
1/3 cup pitted kalamata olives, drained
1 tablespoon capers, drained

Dressing:
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Pinch of sugar
3/4 cup Crisco Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 tablespoons chopped chives
2 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano

Place the grape tomatoes, bocconcini, proscuitto, olives and capers in a large bowl; set aside.

In a small bowl, whisk together the white wine vinegar, mustard, black pepper and sugar. Slowly add the Crisco Extra Virgin Olive Oil in a steady stream, whisking while pouring; whisk until dressing is well blended. Whisk in the chives and oregano. Pour dressing over salad; gently toss to combine. Refrigerate, covered, several hours or overnight to allow flavors to develop, stirring occasionally. Season with additional black pepper if desired. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the tomato mixture to a serving bowl. Garnish with fresh oregano sprigs, if desired. Serve.

Yummy!

I use EVOO for everything but baking, one thing in particular is to fill my pampered chef spritzer bottle in place of other oils.

I only use olive oil in my foods and to saute with. I didn’t even know Crisco made olive oil.

We just started using olive oil and love it! I’m really interested to try the crisco brand. I tend to use it when cooking fish, and I made a salad dressing with it.

We actually use olive oil when cooking chicken on the skillet OR beef for tacos! (It sounds strange for the beef, but we love it!)

I use it in anything that requires oil also – except for baked goods! I also use it when I’m broiling some London Broil. Coat the beef with Olive Oil, then put the spices on, and then broil it. It gets crispy on the outside and scrumptious on the inside! I also use it when I’m boiling pasta.
    Thanks!

I use olive oil daily in salads and a little in stir fry or on eggs, but I love to use it for facial and skin care!…I use it for dry skin on my face and neck and feet. ( it works really well on your feet after a good soak!) and also after soaking my hands i little rubbed into the cuticles is great!

We switched to olive oil a couple of years ago in our quest to eat healthier, so we use it for just about everything. But, you know, nothing is better than some fresh mozzarella and tomatoes tossed in a little olive oil!

Since we do alot of Italian cooking Olive oil is our oil of choice to start with. It gives out meals a much lighter flavor. It can’t be beat when making our roasted potatoes, peppers and Italian sausage dish. We also brush Italian bread with a mixture of olive oil and garlic powder ,and toast in the oven until brown ,to serve with pasta dishes

I switched to olive oil after my husband had a heart attack. He was about everything fried! The only green thing he likes is M&M or thin mints. By switching we lowered his bad cholesterole by 25 points in just a few weeks (about 8 wks). I have used it every since, we love the flavor it gives our food, especially boneless chicken breast. I just heat the olive oil and place seasoned (salt, pepper & garlic powder) chicken breast in the skillet and fry till done. You would not believe the differnce from other oils. Yum.
