Candles Make a Budget-Friendly Last Minute Gift Solution

December 9, 2014 by Tara Kuczykowski Leave a Comment

Have you ever been in that awkward situation where you’ve received an unexpected holiday gift and have nothing to give in return? Or perhaps you received a last minute dinner invite and need a hostess gift stat…

Inexpensive and pretty much universally enjoyed, candles are the perfect gift for this sort of situation! I shared the new Enchanted Holiday collection from Air Wick (which includes some beautiful new scented candles) with you all last week, so I thought it would be fun to show you all how to create a beautiful gift basket using these candles.

How To Package Candles for Gift Giving

  1. Start with a sturdy gift box — I love this one because it can be repurposed to store ornaments and other holiday knick-knacks!
  2. Next you’ll want to line it with some kind of padding to protect the glass candle jars. Wadded up tissue paper is one option, but the best option is shredded paper shavings, especially if you can find them in fun, festive, coordinating colors like this.
  3. Select three or so candles from the Air Wick Enchanted Holiday Collection. I’m partial to the seasonal food scents of Frosted Vanilla & Cupcake Delight, Mrs. Claus’ Apple Pie, and Gingerbread Playhouse, but you could easily swap any of them for either the Waiting By The Fireside or Evergreen Adventure scents.
  4. Toss in a couple of thoughtful, coordinating extras to make your gift more complete. A few options might be a box of long matches, a candle lighter, or a wick trimmer.

Find the Air Wick Enchanted Holiday collection exclusively at Walmart right now — but before you go, be sure to print this money-saving coupon for $2 off 2 Enchanted Holiday products — saving you even more on this already budget-friendly gift idea! While the coupon is good on the scented candles, it’s also good on the Freshmatic automatic sprays and scented oil warmer refills, so be sure to check out all of the options in the line.

You might even want to pick up a few for yourself once you get a whiff of the amazing scents! All of these items are priced around $4.88 currently.

Prep Your Home for the Holidays With Air Wick + Printable Coupon

I won’t lie — with 5 kids and a 14-year-old dog, there are definitely days when my house smells… not so fresh. Especially during the cold winter months when opening the windows often just isn’t feasible.

Oh, it smells great on the weekends when we have time to bake a batch of our favorite cookies or quick breads, but when we’re constantly on the run during the week, there’s not a lot of time for baking. Wouldn’t it be nice if our homes could smell like apple pie or frosted vanilla cupcakes every day?

Thanks to the new Enchanted Holiday collection from Air Wick, they can! With scents like Mrs. Claus’ Apple Pie and Frosted Vanilla & Cupcake Delight, your home can smell like fresh baked goods any day of the week.

Air Wick sent me a few of their products to see how they stack up to the real thing firsthand. While the collection includes automatic sprays and scented oils, I tend to gravitate toward the glow of a scented candle, especially as the days get dark so early this time of year. It doesn’t hurt that these are such beautiful candles, featuring a heavy glass jar and mirrored cap.

So I pitted a fresh baked apple pie against the Air Wick Enchanted Holiday Mrs. Claus’ Apple Pie. While the candle scent is a touch spicier than a warm apple pie, it’s a very pleasing scent that filled our whole first floor without being too overpowering.

I also tested out the Enchanted Holiday Frosted Vanilla & Cupcake Delight candle out against some vanilla cream cupcakes with similar results. Of the two, I’d say the Frosted Vanilla scent is probably my favorite, but I’ve had a long love affair with vanilla scents, and I’d absolutely recommend both.

There are also three other scents that are part of the Air Wick Enchanted Holiday collection that I did not have the opportunity to try:

  • Waiting By The Fireside — cozy amber notes of crackling wood fire, cedarwood and bergamot
  • Evergreen Adventure — exhilarating and fragrant evergreen
  • Gingerbread Playhouse — notes of sweet clove and cinnamon balanced with a hint of ginger and creamy vanilla

I really want to try that Gingerbread Playhouse scent. Who knows, I may have a new fave afterwards!
