Safeway is having a big “Living Well, Feeling Great” promotion currently. You receive a $10 Catalina coupon good on your next order when you spend $30 on participating products.
Reader Charlene from My Frugal Adventures wrote in to share the fantastic deals she’s worked up, and she’ll show you how to get cheap ice cream and chocolate and even free toilet paper!

What is a Catalina coupon?
I actually have the Safeway ad right here, and it says “Get a $10 off coupon good on your next visit for every $30 you spend on PARTICIPATING PRODUCTS in a single shopping trip through 5/5/09.
BTW – I did this, I added everything up carefully and got the $30 of participating items, and because I used coupons, it didn’t give it to me – so I’m just letting you all know my experience. I still got a good deal, so I can’t really complain – but the extra $10 would have been a great plus!

Yes, this is a FABULOUS deal! I have a scenario for people without a stash of coupons on my site HERE and Moneywise Moms has a Mr. Linky where lots of shoppers have listed their scenarios HERE

Thanks, Rachel. I did mention it’s on participating products in the post. :)
A Catalina coupon is one of those coupons that prints out when you purchase qualifying items. In this case, when you buy $30 of qualifying items before coupons, you should receive a $10 coupon that you can use on your next transaction at that store.
Rachel
Oh I know you mentioned it – I actually put that in caps so other people noticed it!! LOL
I didn’t want them to go to the store thinking if they just got $30 worth of stuff they’d get the $10 coupon.
Thanks for the Catalina explanation – I didn’t know that’s what they were called.
Since we’re on the subject of $10 off $30 — anyone that has Albertson’s in there area, it says you get $10 off when you spend $25 – but it doesn’t look like it’s limited to any specific items. It says:
Purchase must be made in a single transaction using your Albertson’s Preferred Savings Card. $10 Next Shopping Trip coupon issued at register. Limit one coupon per transaction.
AND they also have “Buy 10 Kellogg’s, Keebler or Sunshine products Get 2 Free Movie Tickets. Must be purchased in a single transaction.

Rachel, You can call catalina company and give them your receipt information (date, store # etc..) The number is 888-322-3814 . Providing you did spend $30 in participating items they will send the catalina to you in the mail within days. If an item was mismarked in the store (like my experience last night) just take your receipt to the CS desk at your store and they should give you $10 credit.

Wow – I didn’t know you could actually contact someone about that stuff! You are so helpful!!!
I did this a while back at Safeway and my coupon didn’t print and the lady at the CS desk gave me a $10 bill! This time, I used so many coupons I figured it must have been because of that – and it was late so the CS desk was closed, although I’m sure a manager was there somewhere. :)
Thanks again! What awesome information!!

I love this promotion! I have deals listed on my blog as well as some transactions I was able to snag:
For some ideas, check out my transactions last week Here (saved 75%) and Here (saved 89% and 77%)

I LOVE these promotions because unlike Walgreens you can roll the cat again and again for amazing stock ups. This has a lot of great household supplies, organic foods from the Safeway private label line and a lot of overlapping deals for double Catalinas on bottled water and Kraft Mac & cheese deluxe. see my rolling deals on my blog

I have been around and around with Randalls on this and have yet to speak with a Catalina representative. I tried the Living Well promo my total prior to coupons was $32.00 all living well items after coupons went down to $18.00, the manager at my local Randalls and the corporate office has informed me I had to pay $30 out of my pocket (total had to be $30) after coupons to receive a catalina.

I just did this promotion today, combining it with the “buy two Classico sauces, get two safeway pastas free” promotion. It is a great deal, but BE PREPARED to have to talk to a manager if your catalina doesn’t print. Mine didn’t, even though the clerk rang it up three different times (she tried without coupons, too, just to be sure). They checked all my items (thankfully I didn’t have too many!) and they were all part of the promotion, but it still didn’t print. It was worth my time to get it straightened out, but just know that this happens a lot. (Same problem happened some weeks ago with the “chill out” promotion.)

I just did this promotion 4 times tonight, and 3 times the catalina didn’t print. We were able to figure out why once, but I immediately asked why it didn’t print my catalina, and the head clerk gave me $10 cash each time. She was really, really nice about it. The one that did print, every single item had those Safeway clearance stickers on it-$.75 off over and over again on the Horizon milk and cheese. My total was $12.75 and it printed, and that was no manufacturer coupons at all, just the store discounts. I’m glad the clerk was so great about it, but wish the system was more consistent! Overall, I spent $52 OOP, with $20 left for next time. YAY!

I had a question…. I went shopping 2 nights ago, had thoroughly planned out my trip, and spent $90 in participating products, and thought I would get 3- $10 off coupons. When I got to the register I asked, and she said that you only get one per transaction. I thought that I had missed some fine print in the ad, but then when I got home I read the ad, and can’t seem to find anything about only getting one $10 coupon per transaction. Am I missing something?

Is is $30 before or after coupons – to get the $10 catalina?
My LW flier says the total has to be $30 after coupons to get the cat, but it looks like people are having luck even after the coupons are deducted…..any advise??
