Go Green with Kroger Giveaway: $25 Gift Cards

April 16, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

Win a $25 Kroger Gift CardLooking for another green freebie? Well, look no further. Kroger wants to give you a reusable shopping bag just for entering their reusable shopping bag contest. All you have to do is design your own reusable shopping tote, and they’ll credit your Kroger card for the cost of one of their bags.

Even better? When you submit your design, others will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite design. Great prizes will be awarded to the top 10 bag designs, with one lucky designer winning a $1,000 Kroger gift card and the chance for their bag design to be sold in stores. Judges will also select four finalists who will receive $250 Kroger gift cards and five runners-up who will receive $100 Kroger gift cards!

How’s that for an incentive to go green? And yes, that’s my not-so-creative bag pictured above.

Need another incentive?

Kroger has generously given me two $25 gift cards to pass on to two lucky winners to help draw attention to their green efforts. I hope you’ll all take a minute to create a bag and submit your design!

How can you win?

Share your biggest barrier to using reusable shopping totes. Is it hard to remember them? Do you have difficulties bagging your items? Would a small credit for using them be an incentive? Can you think of any ways to solve the issue? I’m just interested in your thoughts on the whole issue.

+++++++++++++++

Every reader has three methods available to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

My biggest problem w/using the bags is the checkers seem to think they’re a hassle. I’ve actually had a Walmart checker try to ‘bag’ my bag in a plastic bag when I bought one, lol!

I always have them in the car since I shop at Aldi a lot, so that’s not an issue. I guess I just need to be more diligent and less concerned w/inconveniencing my checkers! My Kroger gives $.03 per bag when you bring your own.

I don’t have enough bags and the ones I do have never seem to make it back out to the car!! I need to train myself better I guess!

I only have one large one…and I always forget it. Whether I leave it in the house or in the car — it’s never made it into the store with me.

Also, I’m such a silly penny-pincher that sometimes I get to the check-out stand and they have the bags displayed for purchase, but I’m already nervous that I’m going to go over-budget so I don’t want to add bags to the conveyor belt AND to my bill. Bad excuse, I know…

I don’t use them because I can’t seem to remember them, and when I do once they are inside I forget to put them back in my car again.

I already met all requirements before this post except the barrier with the bags. I have a 4mo old and a 4yr old and as much fun as it is to take them to the store I just don’t have room in the cart for 20 or so bags. HOWEVER, with the incentive and my daughter learning to sit on her own soon I’m sure I will make the switch.

My biggest barrier to using my bags is REMEMBERING to bring them with me on shopping trips! Once I use them I often forget to put them back in my car.

The biggest barrier I have is I only have 1 bag so far and it seems like such a hassle to bring one bag when I know I’m going on a big shopping trip and will have other naughty plastic bags mixed in with my one eco-friendly bag.

Remembering to actually bring them in the store is hard for me, especially since I have 2 kids in tow.

My biggest barrier with reusable bags is remembering to use them. I tend to forget to bring them with me to the store. I will probably start keeping them in the car.

My biggest barrier is my husband! He’s constantly bringing them back into the house because he wants the truck clutter free!

The biggest obstable to me using reusable tote bags is my tendency to be disorganized! Now, WHERE is that bag???

I seem to forget them at home most the time, but I think it would be a great idea if retailers offered you some sort of discount or coupon for your next shopping trip if you bring your own bag. It would help retailers save money by not using the plastic bags they have to purchase for customers items.

I got some bags from a natural food store that was closing & I like them, but they’re not easy to smoosh up. So they take up too much room in the cart & end up getting buried underneath everything. I’m trying to figure out a way to take them, my coupon binder & purse & make it easier…still working on it.
& I think a cash incentive would help people to remember to bring them

I love, love, love reusable shopping bags and I always have a few in my car but for some reason I have a hard time remembering to take them in the store! I am more concerned with having all my coupons, my Kroger card, and my money organized that I forget the bags! I have seen some bags that you can roll up and fit into your purse – I guess that might be one solution.

    Thanks!

My biggest barrier is just remembering to take the bags with me. I need to unpack the groceries, put the bags back in the car and then if I forget I could just go back to the car to get them. Sounds easy enough. Now I just need to remember to put the darn things back in the car. LOL

Often cashiers are not happy when you tell them you have your own bags for your purchases. They, and sometimes customers in line behind you, feel that you are holding them up even if you bag your purchases.

    1. Cashiers get grumpy with you
    2. I only have 3 bags and since I only grocery shop every 7-10 days, I usually have a lot more groceries than that and I feel dumb asking them to fill up my bags and then the rest in plastic bags. =)

I have a lot of the bags, but I do tend to forget to bring them. I think I’m not motivated because I reuse the plastic bags for stinky diapers and go through them pretty fast. Once my little guy is out of diapers I think I’ll have more of a drive to use them.

I currently dont use reusable bags, but have been considering making the switch. My big problem would be remembering to take them with me, and getting enough to hold all my groceries. I am thinking about putting them all in a storage container and leaving it in my car.
