In today’s economy, a family outing to the movies can put a strain on most budgets! You don’t even want to know what a recent trip to the movie theater cost our family. We dropped over $100 and didn’t even get to watch the entire movie between bathroom breaks and tantrums. From now on, we’re definitely waiting for the DVD!
Luckily Walmart and Hasbro have partnered to help families make memories and enjoy each other at home. This week, stores across the country have Family Game Night aisles dedicated to helping you put together your own Family Game Night for under $40.
Choose a theme like Sweet Tooth Sunday — with Candyland and the sugary sweet movie Pollyanna along with soda and makings for a homemade ice cream sundaes — or Special Mission Night — all about solving puzzles and using your smarts to uncover a mystery and play Pictureka along with secret recipes of creative snacks to enjoy while you watch National Treasure. Or pick from your all-time favorites at affordable prices.
We headed out to Walmart today with $40 in hand to check it out, and the kids were thrilled with both the selection of games and movies. We finally narrowed it down to Trouble and Operation (both faves of mine when I was younger), and the girls picked out High School Musical. We snagged all 3 for just $35, so we have $5 left over to pick up some simple snacks. $40 for a fun and relaxing evening at home compared to $100+ for a disastrous and stressful outing is a huge bargain! Plus the entertainment isn’t limited to a single 2-hour span.
One lucky Deal Seeking Mom winner will receive a $40 Walmart giftcard to put together their own Family Game Night theme!

My son is too young to play board games yet, so my husband and I like to play Scrabble.

My daughter loves family night. She got to pick two weeks ago and we had a talent show. My son did tricks with the dog, I hula hooped, my daughter did a magic show and daddy won since he got all dressed up like a cowboy and sang a country song. She even gave away a dollar as the prize it was so fun.. As for games she loves to play hang man.. We use a wipe board and have teams.. This is a game you don’t have to spend a dime on and it is really fun..

We love Apples to Apples! We also have the junior edition so we can play with the whole family or just the older kids. We also love Settlers of Cattan and Spy Alley. Our youngest is too young for the last two games but he and I like to be a “team” when we play. ;)

Growing up my brother and I loved to play Life. We used to play for hours and hours.

I still have the Life game my brother and I had growing up in the late 60’s early 70’s. Now my boys love to play it, too. We laugh when one of us have so many children they can’t all fit in the car!!
Kristen
Right now our favorite is Monopoly Jr.

We love playing the scene-it games….my husband especially

My favorite board game is Cities and Knights of the Catan games. Our whole family loves it (except my son who feels it doesn’t have enough strategy). So, if we’re all playing, it would have to be Apples to Apples. Thanks for the opportunity to buy more games!
