Fill Your Makeup Bag for Less

The following guest post is from Kristie at Blushing Basics:

As a lover of all things beauty, I am often on the hunt for that product that provides maximum results for minimum pay. I know the saying is “you get what you pay for”, but does that have to apply to makeup as well? Of course not.

Many makeup companies provide products at different price points for different markets. In fact, did you know Maybelline is owned by L’Oreal who also owns Lancome? This means many of the products you purchase at the drugstore originated from the same companies that provide the high-end products as well.

With that in mind, let me share with you some of my Makeup Bag BFF’s. These are products I would hate to live without that I find at a price point that is much more affordable.

1. L’Oreal True Match Foundation. This little bottle packs a lot of bang for your buck. Great coverage, great color, great price, and believe me there’s a shade for everyone.

2. Rimmel SpecialEyes Eyeliner. This pencil is my go to eyeliner. Many department store brand pencils tend to run easier or rub off quicker. This product stays put, washes off easily and applies smoothly.

3. L’Oreal HIP Eyeshadows. The HIP stands for High Impact Pigment and these shadows don’t dissapoint. They are true to color and application friendly. They come in a variety of forms and I love them all.

4. Revlon ColorStay Liquid Lipstick. I use this product daily. It is a long lasting lipstick that applies easily and doesn’t dry out your lips. Perfect natural looking shades that compliment any look.

5. CoverGirl ShineBlast Lipgloss. These glosses give you the shine and staying power of a MAC Lipglass, without the price.

Get those ECB’s or RR’s out and head to your nearest drugstore to try some of these today. If you follow the coupon guidelines provided by Deal Seeking Mom, you can often find these products for very cheap…or even FREE.

Kristie is a wife & mother who loves all things makeup. She works as a makeup artist for a local photographer and shares tips for applying makeup so you can look best for less at Blushing Basics. You’ll also find vlog tutorials as well as tips on budget beauty and frugal fashion.

I like this post, but from the picture, I was expecting to see something written about Chanel makeup-there’s a whole lot of Chanel in that makeup drawer!

I LOVE Tarte lip stains and the other day my new one melted in my car so I ran out and bought the Cover Girl lip stain (I can’t remember the name) and BLAH! It maybe lasted 20 min…I soooo believe in buying from Sephora vs supermarkets! Please don’t throw anything at me for saying that! Just MHO ladies!

I’m just now starting to switch from department store brands to drugstore brands. I’ve heard that some drugstores have good return policies on makeup, but I can’t find them anywhere. Help!

This is absolutely helpful! Thanks for this and I sure do hope you post more with a similar topic. Maximum effect with a minimum cost is what I’m also about even when it comes to cosmetics.

Can anyone tell me if any mascaras sold at the pharmacies are as good as those sold at the department stores? Thank you!

CoverGirl Lash Blast is really nice for a volumizing mascara. Lots of beauty gurus on youtube swaer by it. L’Oreal Voluminous is another great one.

I’ve tried a number of department store brands, but I always seem to come back to CoverGirl LashExact.

Anyone have any suggestions for good products at Sephora? I just received a $20 giftcard but it was in the form of a code to use online only :(

Try the STILA eyeshadow and cheek palette. They are 10 right now and come with four eyeshadows and one bluch color. Or the STILA eyshadow trio is also ten dollars. This includes a eyeshadow called KITTEN which is what they are known for. Lots of great choices at sephora though and make sure you choose your free samples while your checking out online. Its a great way to try new products for free.

The department stores do hand out samples at times. I love to take advantage of these. Is that bad?

CVS no longer offers the 100% beauty guarantee. I asked about it because I didn’t see the wording in a sales flyer in a while…clerk told me they only take things back if you have a problem with them (like allergic reaction).

I love the L’Oreal true match foundation too. Also, the maybelline mascara in the pink and green tube cant be beat. I have tried expensive brands but it outperforms them all. Never clumpy.
