Dream Giveaway: $50 Home Depot Gift Card

January 26, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

dream-gift-cardRaise your hand if you love The Home Depot!

Thought so – I mean, what’s not to love? I get inspired to do some sort of household project just walking through their doors.

Here’s another bit of inspiration on a more serious note.

Through Feb. 28, The Home Depot is offering a commemorative “Dream” gift card celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. When consumers purchase the collector’s edition “Dream” gift card, The Home Depot will donate five percent of all sales to the Center for Civil and Human Rights, up to $1 million dollars. The donation will assist in the building of a permanent exhibition home for his personal writings and papers.

The collection of original documents by Dr. King includes more than 10,000 items, among them 7,000 handwritten notes spanning from 1946 to 1968. They include drafts of his “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” other theological writings and his Nobel Peace Prize addresses. The King Papers will be part of the exhibition offering of The Center for Civil and Human Rights. The Dream cards can be purchased at any store, or online at homedepot.com/dream.

Talk about amazing and inspiring, huh?

I have one of these commemorative gift cards loaded with $50 to spend at The Home Depot to give away to one Deal Seeking Mom reader!

To enter leave a comment telling me what inspires you. It can be an event, a person, a speech – you name it.

I think what inspires me is my late daughter. She faced breast cancer head on and kept planning and doing what she wanted to do right up until the end. I can only strive to have that kind of spirit and drive!

What inspires me is my boys. One is 3 and knows a little bit but the 7 year old knows a lot more about how we are trying to save money. Last summer we had to cancel our vacation due to my breast cancer diagnosis and the fact that treatment was ongoing during our scheduled vacation. I told him that vacation this year is questionable due to money. My 7 year old WONDERFUL child has offered up all of his savings to pay for us to go to Disney World because he thinks “I” need to go. How can you not try to spoil this child? I love them both more every day.

I am inspired by giving…or maybe more accurately, by the blessings I receive when I give. Although I have always known this to be true, I am really for the first time experiencing joyful giving (beyond tithing) and the blessings that come with that!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
